Which is why I exclusively use the Topping stack now when I need to do listening via my iPad or Macbook. The brand new Low-noise voltage reference power supply effectively reduces the output noises and distortions to an excellent level. What stood up from the moment I picked it up was the case-work, it is much thicker than I anticipated. This isn’t quite dethroning the SMSL SU-9(when paired to my SP400) I use to review all my gear but I honestly prefer the Topping E70V/L70 stack when I just want to chill and enjoy music away from reviewing.
D70 is impressive mostly in this region, no matter the music you will be listening to, it will always sound natural, having a very good flow. I do like some of the tech involved in the DAC though, like them using 8 channels of the DAC with 4 channels summed for each channel L/R and routing the BT through the ESS chip.I will not split my listening tests into how it sounded with headphones or speakers, because it sounded the same in all of those instances so I will just continue describing what I’ve heard. so both were volume matched in no time, with a press on the HPA4 touch-screen I would choose one or another.
USB input of E70 Velvet has a wide range of compatibility: Windows 10, Windows 11, MAC, Linux, iOS, and Android plug-and-play. This sounds more like a really good(if not better) ESS DAC when it comes to speed and sharpness from my specific E70V unit.That was especially true with CD quality rips, which almost approached the level of higher resolution files when played through the Gustard combo. Their line-up of DACs like the E30, E30 II, D50S, D30 Pro, and E50 have all been well-received and widely accepted in the audiophile community. D70 is brightening the day a little bit for them, it adds some midrange magic, a weightier tone, a little bit of substance and opens up the window for a wider soundstage and for a deeper sound.
The smoky and easy-going presentation remained intact and every note was heard heavier compared to their newer records. That seemed like an excessively long period of time, especially since it's already been at least five weeks since I contacted them about getting the review sample. Topping E70 comes equipped with a 12V Trigger interface which has both active control and passive control system. This and having to keep the manual near to translate what the short codes mean in the menus doesn’t make for an enjoyable experience should you need to change things.
Since D70 is impressive in terms of soundstage size, I was a bit scared it would dethrone the Element X but that was not the case.
