Description

During that period, Terry describes grieving over the loss of her 38-year-old twin brothers, Patrick and Daniel, months earlier. I think a mothers fear of being uncool and losing herself is one many can relate to and I love how no matter what, whether your grumpy daughter makes you feel bad or something happens with your work, your undying love for the things you value is always there and you fight for them. But parts of this novel actually just built my anxiety; Maybe this is just me and I am just hypersensitive and could relate strongly to the scenarios that Tara was going through. She also experienced a severe bout of postpartum depression soon after, which led to depression and anxiety. Yet I think I only finished because I hoped Tara would come to her sense and see she was the problem.

Mammy Banter by Serena Terry | Waterstones

It's a great read, funny and engaging, but I think I expected too much from Serena after being a massive fan of her Tiktok account Mammy Banter.

After the success of her Mammy Banter channel, Serena took the brave decision to leave her job as a chief operations officer at a Derry tech company, and she set up her own digital marketing consultancy, Catchy Co.

Goodreads Mammy Banter by Serena Terry | Goodreads

I think the audio version of this read would have been more enjoyable to hear the author herself saying it as I read this I pictured her voice saying everything. I have anxiety myself so I know this feeling 𝙑𝙀𝙍𝙔 well, but she makes a full circle by the end of the book and realises that the person who she thought she had lost was there all along and she was the only one that had been putting herself down (although her bratty teenager didn’t help) and she begins to appreciate those around her for who they are also. But I did love that he was there for her and made sure that she had her own time to just do her thing. The thing of you never know what someone is going through so be nice to everyone should be thought by everyone. Thanks goes to net galley, the publishers and the author for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review. I loved that she was figuring things out on where she stood in life with 3 kids and a job that doesn’t appreciate her and what to do about it.
