About this deal

She was a woman so fleshed out, that I felt like I truly knew her, and she was a person I’d like to have in my life. It has a fine plot, but it's more than that - for me it was most importantly a character study of another impressive Mary, trying to live a fulfilled and authentic life in an era that wants to corset her body and mind. While I enjoy a well done atmospheric ‘vibes over plot’ storyline, I still require thematic contemplation to occupy my mind. I am interested in seeing their writing growth as they have a lot of talent, and hopefully a future story will mesh better with my tastes.

So much work being done in physics, chemistry, geology, biology, medicine, paleontology - you name it. It failed to offer anything unique or distinct from the original Frankenstein, and it could even be argued that it offers far less. The narration in thisbook flits between the past and the present, and gives readers a great viewinto defining moments of Mary's life.Buckle up, literary adventurers, and prepare for a wild array of historical misogyny, harassment, scientific rivalries, and the psychological battlefield of a woman with a daughter lost.

I was in absolute awe of just how immersive the descriptions were and loved that it really delves into the inequalities of the Victorian era and the classist, sexist and racist attitudes which were prevalent and still very much relevant today. If you like weird speculative fiction, queer characters, and historical minutiae, you've come to the right place. Once they have successfully constructed their Creature, Henry’s ambition soars, but Mary finds herself asking deeper, more important questions than she’s ever confronted before.Beautifully written, the author has managed to do the impossible - taking a classic, well-read and well-loved story of generations, and adding to it in the best way. The novel's central character, Mary, is an aspiring scientist in the 1850s, a time of scientific breakthroughs, including the beginnings of the science of paleontology. But when Mary discovers some old family papers that allude to the shocking truth behind her great-uncle's past, she thinks she may have found the key to securing their future.

There are villains in this story, but no heroes; heroines instead take their place, in the form of Mary, and her poorly, gentle sister-in-law Maisie. Our Hideous Progeny is a sumptuous tale of ambition and obsession, of forbidden love and sabotage; a novel that blends classic, immersive storytelling with contemporary themes.I also felt the prose was more simple than I'd have liked - so more of a fun adventure-style romp than anything more thoughtful, but entertaining. In a near-future Britain, a simple operation to insert a chip in the brain allows access to the Panopticon, a network enabling friends to share thoughts and see through each other’s eyes.
