About this deal

It’s not the first time the LEGO Group has produced a tulip-themed set, but with the recently-released (and currently still sold out at LEGO. The sets in the LEGO Botanical Collection include a number of elements made from plant-based plastic, produced using sustainably sourced sugarcane. Brickset, the Brickset logo and all content not covered by The LEGO Group's copyright is, unless otherwise stated, ©1997-2023 Brickset ltd. The easiest and least time-consuming approach for many builders is to tackle all three simultaneously, but should you have any family members or curious onlookers nearby now is the time to get them involved. Some LEGO® sets contain small parts that are NOT suitable for and may pose a hazard to children under 3 years of age.

Contact Us LEGO, the LEGO logo, the Minifigure, and the Brick and Knob configurations are trademarks of the LEGO Group of Companies. The three herbaceous bulbiferous geophytes share the same design DNA as all the other flowers in the botanical collection but are the only ones with lime-green stems, formed using 3-long Technic connectors which in that colour are unique to this set. Making use of the supremely useful modified bricks with studs on three sides, we’re able to construct an entirely studs-out cube on top of three 2×2 round plates allowing the flower head to be built outwards rather easily. In my opinion the red roses are a better colour and a better design than those in the larger set so you might want to swap them out if you have the 18+ bouquet. Each head has a light orange interior and a brown 3-stem flower stalk inside to represent the stamen. With two leaves allocated per flower, the assembly line of stems is complete and once inserted into the flower heads, LEGO 40461 Tulips is ready for display. The white, yellow and lavender colours of the petals here make for a bright and jolly selection, but it’s almost a pity more pieces weren’t included, allowing for a single colour choice if preferred.

Once retired, the expected annual growth will be close to 7% after the second year, which will value the set between 12 € and 13 € shortly after it is retired. Each petal side has a downwards-facing 1×2 cheese slope below a 3×2 curved slope with studs and wing end and, as simple as that sounds, it really achieves the perfect look. The pterodactyl wing leaves have been replaced with a green NEXO Knight canopies which I think are more suitable.

More option though, and this construction does give us a bunch of hard-to-find bright yellow-green Technic connectors, so the trade offs are reasonable. The medium nougat flowers in that used two different types of 4-wide car bonnets whereas this one uses the same one for the eight outer petals. As depicted on the front of the box there are three tulips included within the set, each one in a unique but altogether cohesive and spring-appropriate colour palette of white, bright light yellow and lavender. If the LEGO Group is hoping to grow its adult market with these gateway models, then it’s definitely going the right way about it.

The LEGO Botanical Collection which was introduced in 2021 introduces a range of sets meant for adult LEGO fans to "bring a touch of nature into their home and unwind as they create and customize their botanical builds". The bright yellow-green of the stem itself has a strong contrast with the bright green of the leaves. It’s not a major eyesore by any means, but it does seem like a missed opportunity for a new element re-colour. The easy-to-assemble set comes with 3 blooms – 1 white, 1 purple and 1 yellow – with bright green leaves to symbolize the fresh new life of spring. The way they are connected looks slightly awkward but most likely they'll be inside the vase and out of sight anyway.

Not all LEGO sets are destined to be purchased by everyone, which in many ways is the beauty of LEGO collecting. It’s interesting to note that each flower makes use of two lime green 2×2 round plates, with the third closely matching the colour of the petals. Your mind doesn't count quick enough after 5 or 7 unless things are grouped such at you can quickly count. And if you consider the hollow part of the 3-stem flower stalk to be be the stigma, it may also be the first time an element has been used to represent a female reproductive organ.Comprising mostly of lime green Technic axle connectors and red notched axles, it’s a pretty easy build, and unless you have trouble lining up axles or especially weak finger muscles, there shouldn’t be any issues here. Until the day comes where we see a LEGO Honey I Shrunk The Kids-themed set, minifigures wouldn’t be appropriate (nor to scale) here. Sometimes a LEGO build can be deceptively complicated or parts-intensive despite outer appearances, but in the case of 40461 Tulips it’s mostly a matter of what you see is what you get. These sets present an affordable entry to the new botanical collection and look beautiful and realistic when placed in an attractive vase, although I don't think the two varieties display that well together.
