GLOW – This world premiere is the second installation by Amigo & Amigo and features a giant interactive light installation inspired by the cycles of the moon, with over 40 different sounds and animations, the audience is invited to move and play throughout.

We are very excited to be returning for River of Light in 2023! We can’t wait to bring our work to the beautiful city of Liverpool alongside a talented line up of local, national and international artists. Although most of the installations making up the 2km out are being kept under wraps, the team can reveal that the following creations will be part of the walking trail: Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, Councillor Harry Doyle, said: From Friday, October 27 to Sunday, November 5, River of Light will illuminate the city centre from 5pm to 9pm. Floorplans shown are for approximate measurements only. Exact layouts and sizes may vary. All measurements may vary within a tolerance of 5%. The dimensions are not intended to be used for carpet sizes, appliance sizes or items of furniture.

In the Event of Mistaken Usage

The popularity of last year’s event was felt across the city centre with footfall up, and restaurants, bars and shops reporting a boost in sales. Liverpool ONE welcomed 1.7million visitors to their stores during the event period – a 27 per cent increase in footfall compared to the same period in 2021 – and overall sales were up 5 per cent The scheme manifests a contemporary architectural language that creates its own rhythm, articulation and colouration to define its unique character and relationship to its riverside context, whilst avoiding monolithic frontages and the overshadowing of neighbouring developments. Lampshades Bouquet – French artistic studio TILT have been inspired by everyday objects – giving them a twist of humour and poetry. Expect gigantic outdoor versions of a household lamp, curated in a very special way which will light up in a variety of colours . A bench at each bouquet’s base makes it the most unique location to take the weight off! United By Music - New York-based design firm Yellow Studio - founded by Julio Himede – will bring its 10-metre round, multi-purpose performance space to River of Light for its debut, paying tribute to the music of Eurovision 2023. The installation includes six songs from this year’s competition. Elysian' and 'Elysian Arcs' - Two never-before-seen commissions courtesy of Sydney-based design studio Atelier Sisu. Encouraging people to find joy in the every day, a giant inflatable creation will allow people to walk around and through it as colour reacts to light and form. Liverpool-based award-winning composer John McHugh has been chosen by Atelier Sisu to produce a new soundscape for both the Elysian artworks.

The development includes an exclusive residents clubhouse featuring a state of the art gymnasium, swimming pool and holistic spa, a digital entertainment suite with a private cinema and virtual golf, and a spacious lounge and library area. Labyrinth - This modular colourful Art-chitecture and temporary playground is driven by an exploration of the golden ratio and its connection to the Fibonacci sequence, once again created by Atelier Sisu. Each module of Labyrinth is positioned to create a unique colourful and immersive experience for audiences. The event showcases several installations created by local, national and international artists. Once open, people can walk along the two-kilometre River of Light trail for free and see the 12 installations that can be found along the route from various artists. World-renowned architects Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners have designed an architectural classic of the future; six modern and elegant pavilions specifically designed to welcome the sunlight in and widen the river views out. The 2023 theme is United By Light – inspired by the United By Music strapline used when Liverpool was the host city for what is regarded as the most successful Eurovision Song Contest ever.

Riverlight transforms a triangular, five-acre industrial estate – close to Battersea Power Station on the south bank of the River Thames – into a residential-led mixed use development, creating a transition between the large footprints of the power station and the smaller residential developments to the east. The buildings are organised to accommodate a wide variety of apartments based on two essential types: one-bed apartments with living and bedroom areas wrapped around a single terrace; and two-bed apartments in which the master bedroom shares an additional terrace area divided from the neighbouring two-bed unit. Ca 60% of the scheme is dedicated to open space, with landscaped gardens (by Gillespies), a riverside walkway and a park with restaurants, bars, a crèche and a hotel. Riverlight lies on 2.2ha within the exciting Vauxhall, Nine Elms, Battersea (VNEB) regeneration area, which will form an exciting brand new district in Central London making Riverlight not just a great place to live, but also part of a new and important London landmark.

In landscape terms, each area of the development is conceived as having its own distinct character. The public areas are treated as a revealed river bed with a series of soft, pebble-like forms, while the private courtyards form calm green spaces with heavy tree planting and water gardens. The newly-created river walk – slightly raised to allow views over the river wall to the Thames – brings a 17m-wide boulevard to a previously underused part of the waterfront.

River of Light 2023

Four artworks which will form part of one of the UK’s largest free city centre events have been revealed. River of Light will be part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority as the lead authority. The scheme comprises six buildings, arranged in a rising-form composition, ranging in height from 12 to 20 storeys. The arrangement seeks to maximise views and sunlight to each dwelling. The apartments – typically single aspect – are organised as east or west facing and typically grouped as five units per core, minimising corridor lengths. We’re thrilled and excited to be bringing Elysian and Elysian Arcs to Liverpool for their World Debut! The city is such a wonderful location for the work, and we hope that we can bring a spark of joy to Liverpool this Autumn!”
