About this deal

As if all this wasn’t already pretty cool. The Kompresso has one more ace in its sleeve: It’s capable of making cold-brewed espresso.

Well, you will certainly be able to produce extremely delicious espresso. And by that, I mean shots that are far superior to what you are served in mediocre coffee shops. The Uniterra Nomad is also not the most portable device, though it is smaller and lighter than the Flair. It puts that heft to good use by looking like a little piece of metal art sitting on your desk while cranking out an excellent, creamy espresso. Portable is stretch here—the 9Barista is very well made, but it does weigh more than three pounds. For a small apartment with limited kitchen counter space, or for those RV trips you've been plotting, it's perfect.

The ability to control everything from water temperature, to beans, grind size, and pressure means you can get espresso exactly how you like it. You’ve just got to want to spend the time working it all out. Getting a higher quality espresso than at most coffee shops is very achievable though. The only thing I can be a little bit worried about is the rubber ring sitting on the shower screen. A little bit of misalignment and I fear that an accident could happen. Hopefully, (like with the Aeropress) it’s easy and cheap to get a replacement.

Update May 2019: After one and a half year the Kompresso is still going strong. The build quality is solid) Ease of use Supremely smooth and complex at the same time. Almost no bitterness, but plenty of acidity. This is especially true with quite light roasts that normally wouldn’t be suitable for espresso.

The grind basket takes around 15g or 3.5 teaspoons of coffee. So it should be easy enough to grind at home, then take it with you – even if you want to make multiple espressos! Depending how organised you are you can weigh and grind as many “doses” as you need for the day then store them in individual containers and you’re good to go. For manual espresso making at home, the Signature Flair is a great shout. Or, for life on the road, both the Wacaco Nanopresso and AeroPress are tough competition. This brewer has many things going for it but speed is not one of them. Especially not when paired with a hand grinder. It can easily take 5-8 minutes to make a single shot, which is pretty damn slow. Grinder (Mine is a Comandante C40 MK3 Nitro Blade – great for traveling without sacrificing quality coffee) The newest product in the line-up is the Kompresso; the company’s first stab at the espresso scene.
