As you can see above, the differences between the cameras are huge and if you're not yet a working pro video shooter, it may well be worth considering more recent hybrid video cameras with smaller sensors, like the Panasonic GH5 (rumored to be succeeded soon by the Panasonic GH6) and Fujifilm X-T4. The Sony a7r ii has Fast Hybrid Autofocus with 399 points, whereas a7s ii has only 169 focus points. So, the Sony a7r ii performs better for higher focus points than its opponent. Both cameras have a strong rolling shutter effect in their best quality modes, just like most other cameras that use a large CMOS sensor. The a7S II performs slightly better here. To improve rolling shutter you can use full-frame mode on the Sony a7R II. Although there still maybe a few little annoyances here and there, the Sony A7S III offers so much more functionality than the previous model, and the low-light performance is worlds apart. Whether or not you need a 10-bit full-frame video camera is another matter –if depends on where you're planning to publish your videos and how much grading you tend to do. An 8-bit camera like the A7S II may still be fine for your needs, and it's also worth bearing in mind that there are more affordable 10-bit cameras (albeit with smaller sensors) than the A7S III, such as the Panasonic GH5. 3.
