About this deal

Giro's rigorous testing and development result in a helmet design aerodynamically superior to, and unmatched by, competitors. The new Vivid shield by Zeiss is what most riders will see as the defining feature of the Vanquish. This magnetic shield makes the Vanquish even faster by streamlining airflow, and features an all new road-tuned Vivid™ lens that increases contrast and definition while keeping colors true-to-life. As I anticipated, there was a steady — and generous — rush of air streaming into, through, and out of the helmet and that proved supremely effective at keeping my head cool. What I didn’t expect, however, was how well the helmet worked when going much slower. Despite a low speed of about 16km/h (10mph) and strong sunlight for the lower sections of the climb, exactly one drop of sweat dripped down on to the inside of the shield, and I stayed surprisingly comfortable temperature-wise throughout. It comes with MIPS spherical tech, and features 15 ventilation openings for natural cooling. Inside you'll find antimicrobial Ionic + cushioning for absorbing sweat and maintaining comfort, while the whole thing can be adjusted with the brand's Roc Loc 5 Air system.

Now onto those aero claims. The Vanquish MIPS, with the shield visor in place, scored very highly in our own independent wind-tunnel testing in 2019, consistently up there with the Specialized Evade 2 across a range of yaw angles and speeds. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. Additionally, Giro builds each Vanquish MIPS helmet with a dual-layer EPS foam liner, with a softer-density foam next to the head and a harder, more durable foam further out near the four-piece polycarbonate shell. According to Giro, this double-layer design is better at absorbing impact energy from a wider range of crash severities than any single-density design. and comfort by combining the Mips slip plane with the helmet's adjustable fit system. Giro believes that helmets

If the eye shield is a bit full-on for a Sunday group ride you can, of course, use the Vanquish MIPS with regular glasses. The vents are specifically designed to double up as eyewear ports and I've found them to work well with a couple of different pairs of Oakleys, for example. The key differences between the Aether and its siblings is the manner in which Giro has managed to seamlessly combine attributes such as performance, comfort and safety.Seven premium colourways are available to match any style or preference. Visually, the Syntax looks aggressive, with 25 large vents that provide both an aerodynamic and cooling effect. Cycle to Work is a salary sacrifice scheme, where you can save up to 42% off a new Bike and Safety equipment. This means the cost is deducted from your salary as a non-cash benefit, so you save on tax and national insurance. You could pull of the visor at you local 10-mile time trial if on a full TT rig but that’s about it really. It’s a shame because the Vivid is actually a pretty good piece of kit. equipped with this technology can reduce the amount of rotational force that may be transferred to rider's brain in

As well as the helmet’s aero claims, Giro’s own cooling efficiency testing places the Eclipse at 89.25 per cent, half a percentage point behind the 21 vents of the more climbing-focused Aether, and ahead of its own Helios (87.68 per cent) and Vanquish (85.13 per cent) helmets. Very comfortable helmet, is slightly heavier due to the MIPS but due to a good fit (is personal, of course) this does not bother me at all. You could argue that the Vanquish is not designed for climbing and therefore my issues when climbing are invalid. But realistically, you will find yourself climbing in this helmet at some point so the warnings of overheating are necessary.

Four generously sized indentations are also positioned on the underside of the front of the helmet — in between the expanded polystyrene liner and your forehead — to help bring in more cooling air, especially around the browpad to help prevent sweat from dripping down into your face. Inside the Vanquish is an EPS liner with progressive layering, and our renowned RocLoc® Air system seamlessly integrated with MIPS Technology to enhance comfort and cooling power while providing an additional measure of protection. Wiggle Ltd (In Administration). 1000 Lakeside, Suite 310, Third Floor N E Wing, Portsmouth, Hampshire, PO6 3EN, United Kingdom Giro claims a weight of 305g for the Vanquish MIPS (without an eye shield). Well, ours, in a size medium, came in at 367g. For comparison, the Bontrager Ballista aero helmet that I reviewed a couple of years ago was 266g (very lightweight for an aero helmet). The eye shield adds 50g. Giro's Helios Spherical helmet is designed for use both on road and off, making it a great option for anyone who likes to zip along tarmac while knitting together multiple gravel segments.

While aero road helmets of old may have been fast, they were prone to overheating – but not with the Eclipse, Giro says. protection. So whether you're hammering off the front, smashing an Ironman course, or laying down maximum wattage in Giro has combined its own Roc Loc Air fit system with MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) for added comfort and safety. Giro mentioned that this is a maintenance issue; but they don’t explain how to dry up the sweat that rust the magnet within the helmet shell! Riders these days are paying more attention to safety than ever before, and it’s refreshing to see that Giro hasn’t merely glossed over that aspect in developing the Vanquish MIPS. As the name suggests, a low-friction MIPS liner is included as standard equipment, with the claimed benefit of reducing rotational forces transmitted to the brain — and, thus, the chances of a traumatic brain injury — during an impact. That MIPS liner is molded as a single piece with the Roc Loc Air retention system to improve fit quality and airflow.

So whenever you're making your last sprint to the finish line, want to ride a time trial or triathlon as fast as possible, or simply stay ahead of your friends during your weekly Sunday ride, you'll love having the Giro Vanquish MIPS helmet on your head! around the rider's head while forcing heat and stale air out. It's the most effective cooling system available, and True to claims, ventilation performance seemed better with the shield in place than stowed, too (perhaps due to the fact that doing so partially obscures the forward-facing vents). Designed to deliver greater depth and contrast to your vision, the removable Zeiss-developed lens can be stowed away by flipping it upside down or ditched entirely for regular shades, it’s your choice. The low-profile design and R&D behind the Giro Eclipse Spherical have resulted in a svelte aero road helmet that also qualifies as a serious all-rounder.
