The Growing Story by Ruth Krauss is a delightful EYFS/KS1

This is a lovely book about a young boy who watches everything around him grow, but feels that he himself isn't growing. Until one day when he tries to put on some clothes that he had worn the year before, and couldn't really fit into! He is then very excited that he has grown! A little boy worries throughout the summer that he's not getting bigger, but at the end of the season he tries on his winter clothes and realizes that he has grown Now in its second season, HarperCollins's reissue of 22 Sendak classics continues. This time, his collaborations with Ruth Krauss take center stage. In Charlotte and the White Horse, first Continue reading » LoveReading4Kids exists because books change lives, and buying books through LoveReading4Kids means you get to change the lives of future generations, with 25% of the cover price donated to schools in need. The topic may be confined to human growth, with links to healthy eating and healthy practices, but can also easily extend to animal, insect, plant and underwater or undersea growth. An interesting extension I have used in the past is to look at cave growth – stalagmites, stalactites and the unique plants and fungi found in this environment. It can help to show the infinite variety of life (and life requirements) on the planet – although these aspects might be a bit much for some children. You will need to pitch your coverage to the children with whom you are currently working.

ISBN 0-689-81528-X. PW's starred review applauded the ""laugh-out-loud results"" of this talented team's clever interpretation, calling it ""among the wittiest fractured fairy tales around."" Ages Continue reading » Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - A baby boy is showered with love from his relatives as the clan gathers for a celebration in this exuberant picture book. The baby waits at the window with Mom, not ``doing anything... nothing Continue reading » The cover is a spoiler, so don't show it to your kids (at least of the original version, available on OpenLibrary.org). Controlled vocabulary, rhythm, patterns, and illustrations that tell more than the text... this is a wonderful little book by a poet who interviewed and respected children. Ways to notice and measure growth. For example, the boy finally realizes he’s growing because his winter clothes provided a way to measure growth—they no longer fit because they’re too small.

The existence of the Boy and his Mother had a timeless quality (despite all this growing going on), brought out by the internal rhythms of the text. Helen Oxenbury's illustrations emphasise this timeless character. They are subtle, gentle and pretty in a cottage garden kind of way (but not actually twee, I hasten to add), with a hint of haze that nostalgia tends to give to older adults' memories of childhood. Beautifully produced, written and illustrated, this is a classic work for any age at any period.’ The Independent on Sunday
