About this deal

Marionette Mansion (from House of the Marionettes, あやつりの屋敷 Ayatsuri no Yashiki), a story about a family who rather than deciding what they do or how they live, they instead hire puppeteers to control their actions via strings from the attic of their home. In 2006, Ito married Ayako Ishiguro (石黒亜矢子), a picture book artist. As of 2023, they have two children. [18] Inspiration and themes [ edit ] Other artists [ edit ]

This may count as more mundane horror, as it turns out that Mariko's father has been putting chips in people's brains that make Mariko invisible upon seeing her. He also erases people's memories. While he's eventually captured and turned in to the police, Mariko is killed by the insane admirers who believe her to be an alien. The club disbanded following their chips being removed and the killers being caught. Collects: Tomie, Tomie Part 2: Morita Hospital, Basement, Photo, Kiss, Mansion, Revenge, Waterfall Basin, and Painter Shiver is one of Junji Ito’s better horror manga collections. Some of his stories are a bit weak, containing only a striking image or idea and a lot of fluff around it, but some are quite brilliant and unique. Ito’s stories are nothing if not original, though often they’re too absurd or silly, undercutting the horror with unintentionally amusing over-the-top moments. One of Junji Ito's first works, submitted in 1987 for the now defunct Monthly Halloween magazine, Tomie is a classic horror story about a vengeful ghost. The beautiful and mysterious Tomie Kawakami combines the horror of a demon with the powers of a succubus: She drives people into jealous rages that lead to brutal acts of violence whilst making people madly in love with her. The most common obsessions are with beauty, long hair, and beautiful girls, especially in his Tomie and Flesh-Colored Horror comic collections. For example: A girl's hair rebels against being cut off and runs off with her head; Girls deliberately catch a disease that makes them beautiful but then murder each other; a woman treats her skin with lotion so she can take it off and look at her muscles, but the skin dissolves and she tries to steal her sister's skin, etc. This volume includes nine of Junji Ito’s best short stories, as selected by the author himself and presented with accompanying notes and commentary. Oikawa, Ataru (April 9, 2005), Tomie: Beginning (Horror), Arcimboldo Y.K., Art Port, archived from the original on October 6, 2022 , retrieved October 6, 2022 Remina is a science fiction horror, where a newly discovered planet has emerged from a wormhole. While it’s a huge discovery, things turn to despair when scientists realise that the planet is on a crash course with Earth, eliminating other planets in its path. In the present day, Yuuji meets up with his friend Hideo. Hideo's mother is a midwife at the local hospital, who delivered Rina at birth. Rina was born not breathing and the doctors could not explain how she was alive; but then the holes began to open in her skin and she was somehow able to breathe through them. However, Hideo claims his mother might be making this story up, and Yuuji doesn't know what to believe. Now here is some imaginative and original body horror by our master of terror. The Long Dream (found in Shiver) tells the story of a man in a hospital bed who lives years – sometimes entire lives – every time he sleeps. When he wakes up, the time he spent in the dream is worn on his skin and his body slowly degrades and morphs into something alien and frightening. There’s nothing threatening in this story – no monster or otherworldly creature – only a man who slowly succumbs to eternal dreams and wakes up to find his body sunken and immobile. This is what makes The Long Dream one of the most harrowing and haunting Ito stories, while also being so cleverly static.
