About this deal

Y-axis: “Where to Play.” This measures the novelty of your customers. Will the innovation serve an existing, enter an adjacent, or create a new market?

Fast, energetic team problem solving game that will encourage lateral thinking, innovation and best use of team dynamics to win (15 mins) Innovation Ambition Matrix was inspired by the May 2012 Harvard Business Review article, “Managing Your Innovation Portfolio,” written by Monitor’s revolutionary co-partners: Bansi Nagji and Geoff Tuff. The productive game helps teams develop a holistic view of how to get ahead by organizing initiatives and goals based on three innovation levels: core, adjacent, and transformational. Play Innovation Ambition Matrix to clarify the ambition of a project, develop a cohesive operation rather than a scattering of competing advancements, and identify how to balance your team’s effort allocation. Provides an opportunity for participants to challenge the way things are and find alternative solutions. Polarities live as interdependent pairs that need each other to exist, for example inhaling & exhaling. One pole is not valued as better than the other. Polarities have an enduring quality, they are unavoidable and unsolvable. Polarities live everywhere from our internal dialogue to external patterns of relating in society and within organizations. Overfocus on any one pole leads to the breakdown of the system as a whole.Participants form teams of 3–5 and choose an index card from each of two piles. One pile of index cards has major brand names, the other has product categories. The groups are told that they now work for the company they chose and they must innovate a product for the category they chose. The groups have a set amount of time to develop the product’s target audience, features, and promotional ideas. One member from each team will then present their ideas to the rest of the groups. Remember the Future: Participants imagine a time in the future when they will have been using the product almost continuously between now and then. ("Future" may be expressed in months, years, or some other time frame.) Participants then write down exactly what the product will have done to make them happy, successful, rich, safe, secure, etc.

Include several “outrageous” features, in other words, features that do not make sense at first sight: Here’s a little secret: anyone can innovate. While there are those select textbook geniuses who work hard every single day to create industry-shaking innovations, many of the best ideas come from “regular” people who just thought: What can I do to make this process or idea better/easier/faster? A short and fun brain teaser that will test teams’ creativity and ability to think laterally. (10 mins) When buying a feature, a customer may ask if other customers want to pool especially when money starts missing. Examine the note cards in the upper right region of the chart. Is there any way to divide these items into more manageable tasks? These smaller assignments may then be separated to different areas depending on their size and priority level. This will make your to-do list less daunting and more efficient. Play Online

In a Big Think post titled Why Traveling Abroad Makes Us More Creative Part II , it was noted that, “Through a series of five studies Maddux and Galinsky found that students who traveled abroad scored higher on tests of creativity.” These studies highlighted how students who traveled were able to look at problems from a wider number of perspectives—boosting their ability to innovate solutions to challenges. Task: Teams begin by making the tallest mediaeval castle out of paper, straws and tape. Then deal with an abundance of changes that transform their castle completely.
