Hornfel nodded and lowered himself into the chair. He looked tired and haggard, as though he had not slept, and his expression was unusually dark and stern. He waved Wolfstone to a seat. Though most of the side characters were duds, I did like Dalamar the elven wizard, and Wolfstone the dwarf. I don’t think they were particularly well written, but they were more palatable than the rest. It was really a shame that Wolfstone wasn’t more prominent. I just finished listening to the audiobook and overall the novel was fine. As others have said, the time travel stuff is getting a bit old by this point, and I could have done without so much more Tasslehoff. DRAGONS OF DECEIT is a non-starter that eventually gets to the beginning of the story that all fans of the series are going to want to read Honestly, for nearly 2/3 of the book I wasn't sure I'd finish it. There are a number of editing errors and cut and paste descriptions that keep getting repeated. I found myself wondering if this is even my favorite authors' work, it felt that different from their other work.

Dragons of Deceit by Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman

The Dragonlance Chronicles began with D&D’s original publisher TSR in 1984, with Dragons of Autumn Twilight. It introduced fans to the world of Krynn, and characters such as Tanis Half-Elven, Raistlin, Flint Fireforge, and Goldmoon. The original trilogy also included the novels Dragons of Winter Night and Dragons of Spring Dawning. The Dragonlance franchise also included numerous tabletop role-playing adventures that were designed and published contemporaneously. The world of Krynn and its characters have since made cameos in many D&D publications, including recent game books for 5th edition. Dungeons & Dragons novels played a major role throughout the game's continually evolving history, but over time their popularity seemed to wane. Eventually, Wizards of the Coast stopped focusing so heavily on companion novels and turned their sights toward reworking the game itself. Now, as D&D 5e reawakens old worlds and campaign settings, like Dragonlance and Ravenloft, the hunger for deeper experiences within those worlds only continues to increase. I was surprised at how poorly written it was. Made to 20% and stopped. I understand it was written like a module so I was hoping her writing matured.I understand the need to cater to newcomers who might not know all the varied history of Dragonlance but for me, these info dumps were made worse by the fact it was all information I was already very familiar with. This Solamnic woman has come here looking for that same Graygem, claiming it is in the kingdom of the Theiwar.”

Anyway, Destina Rosethorn, my one complaint being her name sounds like it came from Harry Potter fanfic, is a young Solamnic Knight's daughter during the War of the Lance. Her father doesn't believe in the gods, but her mother does. After a series of unfortunate events result in Destina losing her father, castle, fiance, and self-respect, she proceeds to hatch upon a plan to use the Device of Time Journeying ot save her father from death at the High Clerist's Tower. Hornfel scowled, and Wolfstone feared he had angered him. But the king was reasonable, and he considered the argument. “No, I wouldn’t,” he admitted at last. “Not for all the treasure in a dragon’s horde. So what do we do? We can’t leave it there.” Wolfstone nodded. “But you fear she is not lying about the Graygem’s location. It is in Thorbardin.” I first read the Dragonlance novels (those that were out at the time - the first 2 trilogies) in the summer of '86. Years later, I did a full reread including the third & fourth trilogies. This was a big disappointment. The story telling was just too simple for my taste. A plot written by a middle school girl in a summer fantasy workshop.

He headed for the King’s Wall: the fortification that surrounded this level. Wolfstone took a lantern from an iron sconce and walked along the wall until he came to the door of a storage room. She went in search of her mother and found Atieno at the window in her bedchamber, gazing out at the bright blue sky above and burnished orange leaves below.Another things that needs to be said is that they're not writing for teenagers anymore. Most Dragonlance fans are in their 30s, 40s, even their 50s. We have grown older and our tastes in books have evolved. It's the same with the Star Wars franchise. For once, just for once, I'd like for the powers that be to remember that and offer us material that we can enjoy and relate to as adults. Perhaps, if I was still fourteen, I would have loved this novel and would have overlooked all its flagrant flaws. But as an adult? Destina sighed and peered into the cup, and this time she saw that the dregs had formed a recognizable pattern. She laughed and said before she thought, “Isn’t that funny, Mama. The lees are in the shape of a dragon. See, here is the tail and the head and the wings . . .”

Tracy and I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Astinus, Shivam Bhatt. We brought Shivam into this project at the beginning to help us with all things Dragonlance. He has answered many questions, provided invaluable assistance and kept many, many secrets! Margaret Weis Starting a new series like this can be a daunting task. How much time do you give to bringing new readers up to speed? How do you weave in the elements of past books that will be important to the new story? How much do you include old characters, versus forging trails with new? This is a HUGE series, with books aplenty. I have most of them sitting on my shelves at home. But why am I spending so much time on these questions, you ask? Why am I dithering around?Anyway, Destina Rosethorn, my one complaint being her name sounds like it came from Harry Potter fanfic, is a young Solamnic Knight’s daughter during the War of the Lance. I am currently working on the third book in the Dragon Brigade series, the Seventh Sigil. The first book is Shadow Raiders. The second book is Storm Riders, coming out from Tor in July 2013.
