About this deal

A 16pin connector is included with the Toughpower GF A3 series to provide powerful and stable performance that enables the PSU to run next-generation GPUs natively. Also to anyone else following earlier posts of mine in this thread. The Hela 1200r sent a new production unit to Cybenetics and it has now passed atx 3.0 certification. Apparently they had sent a pre production unit first and that’s why it failed one of the transient load tests.Probably both use the same PCB, both are CWT production. I couldn't trust it and then returned it because I was going to use it as a rendering and workstation. On the rear side, we can see the power switch, a cover over the 3-pin plug that explains the second on/off switch, which is the switch for the “smart zero fan.” Below, we have a “mode” and “color” switch which controls the ARGB LEDs should you not want to connect them to the motherboard ARGB connectors. Turning this on enables a mode where the fan doesn’t turn on until it’s under load—keeping the unit as quiet as possible. It features a 140mm fluid dynamic bearing fan to balance silence and superior cooling perfectly. Furthermore, the Smart Zero Fan will not spin until it reaches a specific temperature, minimizing the fan noise. The rear details the efficiency, smart zero fan, low noise ripple design, strict voltage regulation, and connector and output specifications.

The cables are delivered in a canvas bag. The lid is lined with velcro, so it can be used to store and seal the cables you don’t need safely and securely. For this particular review, however, we’ll be taking a closer look at the 1350W variant (Albeit, for the sake of simplicity, from this point on we’ll just refer to it as the ‘Thermaltake ToughPower GF3’). What Does Thermaltake Have to Say? To satisfy the increasing demand for the power consumption of graphics cards, the GF A3 Gold Snow series is designed to support NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards and is able to supply the graphics cards in different ways of connection. Electrolytic: 3x Nichicon (2-5,000h @ 105°C, HD), 4x Nichicon (4-10,000h @ 105°C, HE), 1x Rubycon (2-10,000h @ 105°C, YXF), 1x Nippon Chemi-Con (4-10,000h @ 105°C, KY), 1x Nippon Chemi-Con (4-10,000h @ 105°C, KYA)High-quality Japanese 105°C/221°F main electrolytic capacitors offer stability and reliability which enhance the durability of the GF A3 Gold series. Top-end build quality with low ripple noise. GF3 1200 W Snow's all ripples are lower than 30 mV on +12V, +5V or +3.3V from 0% to 100% load to ensure a stable operation and keep your performance-critical components to function reliably for longer.

I had an issue during ATX v3.0 transient testing for PSUs equipped with 12VHPWR connectors, so you won’t find these tests in the review. I have informed TT to send me a second sample to run the tests, and I will update the review once I have all the data. The lower capacity GF3 models, 750W and 850W, passed the corresponding tests successfully, but things will be tougher for the 1200W model since it will have to go up to 2400W for the 0.1ms transient response test! Given that the highest power spikes I measured in a low-end RTX 4090, by Palit, were 700W, there is no need for the PSU to be able to handle such high power spikes, so the GF3 1200W won’t have an issue with any RTX 4090, even if you push the power limit up to 600W. Still, NVIDIA will raise the bar even higher, asking PSU manufacturers to tune their platforms for up to 235% power spikes! Either NVIDIA knows something that I don’t, or it just prepares the ground for the next generation of GPUs. Either way, 200% power spikes were crazy already, and now the bar will go even higher! PCIe Gen 5.0 Ready! Designed with a native PCIe 12+4pin modular connector, the Toughpower GF3 series is built for the next-gen PCIe 5.0 graphics cards and is compatible with Intel ATX 3.0 specifications. The fully modular Toughpower GF3 series comes in 1650W, 1350W, 1200W, 1000W, 850W and 750W and is built to deliver 80 PLUS Gold efficiency. Aimed at providing the best performance, the Toughpower GF3 1350W includes all the critical features such as < 30mV low ripple noise design, extremely strict voltage regulation < ±3%, hold up time> 17 milliseconds, and comes with 100% high quality Japanese capacitors and other premium components to help deliver continuous and stable power.” Features Tough power GF3 Snow series saves energy through its high energy efficiency up to 90% and is certified to 80 Plus Gold. The series has been optimized to work with all generations of Intel's processors to achieve maximum energy saving. To satisfy the increasing demand for the power consumption of graphics cards, the GF A3 Gold series is designed to support NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards and is able to supply the graphics cards in different ways of connection. The Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1200W PSUs offers top performance and it is ATX v3.0 and PCIe 5.0 ready, so it is ideal if you plan to buy an NVIDIA RTX 4090 and combine it with a powerful CPU, an AMD Ryzen 9 7950x or an Intel 13900K.Parallax1 said:I have startup noise problem with this. Im definetly sure its not the fan, i tried to stop it from exterior and still noise happens. I guess high inrush current causing this for 1 second, but is that harmful for psu or pc?
