Gower: A Guide to Ancient and Historical Monuments on the Gower Peninsula, by Diane M. Williams for Cadw: Welsh Historic Monuments, 1998 ( ISBN 1 85760 073 8) There were 561 households, of which 38.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.3% were married couples living together, 11.6% had a female householder with no husband present, 2.9% had a male householder with no wife present, and 27.3% were non-families. 24.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.08. Ah, Oxwich beach, a rare treasure indeed. It has been voted one of the best beaches in Britain, and so it is. As you look west from Three Cliffs Bay or Tor Bay , the pristine sand arcs away for miles, ending at a wooded headland. It is a truly wondrous place. The Gower Peninsula stretches towards the west from the City of Swansea, spanning approximately 19 miles. It boasts a diverse landscape, with its southern coast adorned with sandy beaches and scenic cliff paths, while the northern coast is characterized by expansive salt marshes that gradually merge into the Loughor Estuary. Worms Head stands as a cherished national symbol, and Rhossili Bay is renowned as one of the most breathtaking beaches in Britain, if not the entire world. The western end of Oxwich beach is much busier. The Oxwich Bay parking area is here, and the Oxwich Bay Hotel, a great base for Gower holidays, overlooks the beach. The smallest type of administrative areas in Wales are the Communities- the equivalent of parishes in England.Community councils or town councils operate across Wales. At high tide, the beach is a bank of pebbles. As the tide receded, so the sand is revealed. The coast path walk here is great, but another approach to consider is along the lush green Bishopston Valley, following the course of a stream to the sea.
