About this deal

A saline mouthwash made up with warm water may relieve the pain of traumatic ulceration and radiotherapy mucositis. Please note that these guidelines only provide starting doses for oral immediate release morphine and not MST preparations Tell all of your health care providers that you take Gelclair (mucosal coating gel (gelclair)). This includes your doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists.

Care when prescribingglycopyrronium bromide oral solution as it available as two preparations of different strength and different dosing regimens: To be used in line with Primary Care Antimicrobial Policy & Guidance. Only to be used ifan immediate antibiotic is not given, and there is no eardrum perforation or otorrhoea. See also NICE NG91: Otitis media (acute): antimicrobial prescribing. From the National Specialist Service for pulmonary arterial hypertension (Scottish Pulmonary Vascular Unit or similar specialists)

Where to get Gelclair

No known disease interactions. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist. Always consult your healthcare provider. Betamethasone soluble tablets dissolved in water can be used as a mouthwash to treat oral ulceration(unlicensed use). For patients who have not responded to other therapies and who would otherwise be considered for Sub Lingual Immunotherapy (SLIT) or a referral to secondary care There is no convincing evidence that antiseptic lozenges and sprays have a beneficial action. Sprays that contain local anaesthetics may cause sensitisation. Pour the entire contents of the single-dose Gelclair sachet into a glass and add approximately 40 ml of water (3 tablespoonfuls). Stir mixture well and use at once. Rinse around the mouth for at least one minute or as long as possible to coat tongue, palate, throat, inside of cheeks and all oral tissue thoroughly. Gargle and spit out.

Appropriate pain control is recommended together with the continuation of good oral hygiene, as tolerated. The patient's pain should be assessed using the assessment tool in Appendix 3.First line saliva replacement product. To be considered only after full oral assessment and examination, including patient education, and if simple measures eg frequent drinks/ mouthwashes, sugar free gum, sugar free boiled sweets have failed. Discontinue if patient perceives no benefit after 5 days.

Antihistamine nasal sprays tend to be less effective than topical steroids. They offer an alternative for a small number of patients (or parents) that express concern about the long-term safety of corticosteroids. Local infection should be treated. Prior agreement must be obtained by the specialist from the primary care provider before prescribing responsibility is transferred. The shared care protocol must have been agreed by the relevant secondary care trust Drugs and Therapeutics Committee(s) (DTC) and approved by the Nottinghamshire APC.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks of using Gelclair (mucosal coating gel (gelclair)) If the drug is one with which the primary care prescriber is unfamiliar the specialist is expected to provide sufficient information on the drug indication, dose, duration , monitoring and any further necessary dose adjustments

The purpose of this document is to provide guidance for the management of mucositis in children and young people with cancer receiving chemotherapy/radiotherapy.The supporting prescribing guideline must have been agreed by the relevant secondary care trust D&TC(s) and approved by the Nottinghamshire APC.
