A funnel will allow you to fill water balloons with any kind of water source. Use a funnel at a hose when you don’t have a nozzle or at a sink with a spout that’s too large. You can even use a funnel to fill water balloons from a water jug, far away from any other water source. This could prove to be an advantage in the heat of the water balloon battle. Summer is here and that means hot weather! Enter the fun way to cool off on a hot day — water balloons! Make our easy DIY water balloon filler station and our easy way to tie balloons so the kids can fill them, themselves! #MomWin Put a few drops of food colouring in each water balloon and hang or lay out a big piece of paper on a flat surface outside. Then take it in turns to throw the balloons at the paper to create beautiful – and satisfyingly messy – splash patterns. A sink with a large spout (like one with a filter on it or multiple settings for the type of stream you’d like) isn’t ideal. However, it can still work with the use of a funnel (see below).

Use the water balloons like water guns! Point the end with the rubber band towards your victim, and squeeze the balloon. Water will squirt out the end! This activity is best done outside, with kids in swimsuits and ready to get wet. Make sure to choose washable paint, and set up in an area you can hose down afterwards. A classic for a reason: all you need to do is give each team an equal number of balloons and set them loose. The victors are those who are driest after the last water balloon has been thrown. If you’re going to use some for art, make sure the outside of the balloon is dry and that you choose non-leaky balloons for this project.
Water balloon fights leave a lot of balloon shrapnel in the yard. If you have young children or pets, the small pieces of popped balloon can prove dangerous. Always be sure to clean up the remains of the water balloon fight as soon as possible. Lay out a plastic sheet to slide on and cover it with water balloons.
