About this deal

It is installed with the technology for you to be able to hook up an app operated by BILT to guide you through the process in 3D. Who are they for? I would be sarcastic & say “people who want to drink filter coffee” ;-), but there's more to it than that. Sage only make one filter coffee machine, and it's really quite a special filter coffee machine. These are for people who are really particular about their filter coffee. What they ended up with was not just something unique to domestic espresso machines, but something I think which is fairly unique even to commercial machines, and the long and short of it is that you end up with ridiculous temperature stability at a much lower cost than would usually be required to achieve that.

You can pull similar shots with the Dual Boiler simply by changing the preinfusion power to the minimum setting of 55 (via the LCD) and then pressing and holding the manual button, which keeps the machine in pre-infusion until you take your finger off the button, which you'd do when you start to see the first drips of espresso. Who are they for? People who want to get more involved when they have the time, but want assistance when they're rushed, and for homes where there are people who want a more “one touch” type experience and also people who want to explore the home barista hobby. Theoretically the Oracle Touch has the edge (quite a big edge, to be fair) over the Touch Impress where potential shot quality is concerned too, due to the superior temperature precision and stability of the dual boiler with heated group and dual pids, but in practice what allows an espresso machine to reach its full potential, is the grinder, and the Oracle Touch and the Barista Touch Impress have the same grinder. As well as being able to set the preinfusion time via the LCD (by pressing and holding the up and down arrows) within a huge range of zero to 90 seconds, you can also set the preinfusion power, and you can also determine the preinfusion manually by pressing and holding the “manual” button. This is an advanced, high-performance automatic espresso machine with a futuristic look to match! How to Choose the Best Dual Boiler Espresso Machine

The barista's choice for home espresso.

I quite often hear from people who've clearly done this, who have ended up being what I refer to as “set and forget” users, which means they're attempting to use Sage integrated grinder traditional espresso machines as if they're bean to cup machines. Using a Sage coffee machine like this will cause hit and miss results with each bag of beans, especially when people select to use the single walled baskets because they hear that they're the best.

Grant, T. (2020, July 29). How Flow Profiling Affects Espresso Extraction. Retrieved from https://perfectdailygrind.com/2020/07/how-flow-profiling-impacts-espresso-coffee-extraction/Machines like the Barista Express and Barista Pro don't have any assistance, they're no easier to get great espresso and great milk texture from than any other traditional espresso machine, integrated grinder or not.

Being a home barista is a hobby, it's not just a case of buying a machine so you can press a button and get great espresso and espresso-based drinks, there's a real skill to it, and this is a skill which takes time and effort to master. Independent control of brew temp and steam temp, meaning that you can adjust the steam pressure without impacting on the brew temp. To be honest, I don't think there's anything you need to be particularly concerned with if you're buying a Sage Dual Boiler brand new. They come with a 2 year warranty, if anything happens within this period you'll be looked after. If you're the kind of coffee lover who wants true espresso, and mega milk quality, but you don't want to have to do loads of learning and turn coffee into a hobby, instead you want the kind of user experience you'd have with a premium touch screen bean to cup coffee machine, then this new breed of coffee machine from Sage will be right up your street.

What do they make? Espresso and all the espresso-based coffee shop favourites, including cappuccino, latte, flat white & americano. Brown, N. (2014, December 18). La Marzocco Banking on High-End Home Brewing Growth with New Home Division. Retrieved from https://dailycoffeenews.com/2014/11/18/la-marzocco-banking-on-high-end-home-brewing-growth-with-new-home-division/ The standard approach to designing a new domestic espresso machine would be to try the best domestic machines on the market, reverse engineer them and look at making them slightly better. But for this project, the goal was “cafe quality espresso at home” and they did their research based on commercial equipment, not domestic.

All of these settings means that you’ll need to make quite a few shots of espresso while you fine-tune your machine, but it’s totally worth it. Once we’d got The Dual Boiler set up properly, we got, hands-down, the best results we’ve had with any espresso machine so far. Perfect, red-brown crema sat on top of our shot of espresso, which is dark and rich in colour showing excellent extraction from our ground coffee. At 68C, the shot was just about perfect temperature wise, with additional shots coming out at the same temperature. Sage has used PID (proportional-integral-derivative) controllers for its boilers, which ensure that they deliver at a consistent temperature. Flexible shot control. Choose between one shot, two shots or manual control over how much espresso ends up in your cup for the perfect dose every time.

So with that said, let's get on with the review in a bit more depth. Sage Dual Boiler Review in More Depth By the way, just to add at this point, in case you weren't aware and/or if you didn't read this earlier in this post, what we know as Sage Appliances in the UK is known as Breville in most other countries, they sold the brand name in Europe in the 80s which is why we know of a different Breville here. The flip side is that larger steam boilers lead to massive espresso machines that cost a lot and take a long time to heat up. A 1 to 2 L boiler is plenty for the average user, and the boiler temperature and steam wand tip can also influence steam pressure from a smaller boiler. Copper, Stainless Steel, or Brass? What are they? These are traditional espresso machines with a level of assistance that makes them ultra-convenient and user-friendly.
