This latest Doctor Who/Mr Menbook follows the Thirteenth Doctor, Graham, and Ryan as they try to put together a fun birthday surprise for Yaz. The Doctor travels across time and space in search of some candles, some balloons, and a cake. All this makes for a rather explosive surprise! Ever since the first glimpse of the Doctor Who Mr. Men mash-up books people were asking “I wonder if we will get figures of these”– well, here they are. When Doctor Who returned in 2005, showrunner Russell T Davies introduced a whole new generation to the Autons! The opening episode Rose scared young and old alike with shop dummies coming to life due the Nestene Consciousness desire to take over the Earth. We first met the Autons in the Third Doctor era and, coincidentally, in two season openers, both featuring Jon Pertwee (in his very first story, Spearhead From Space) and one featuring The Master in his debut, Terror of the Autons. It combines familiar elements of the television series (such as some Sontarans, and Graham affectionately referring to her as ‘Doc’) with the whimsical wit of the original Mr Men stories. As this story was written before the Thirteenth Doctor’s first series hit our screens, it sadly isn’t able to make reference to this Doctor’s adventures in the same way as the previous Doctor Who /Mr Menbooks have. Nevertheless, I’d love to see Hargreaves‘ take on some of the characters and creatures the Thirteenth Doctor has encountered so far – perhaps a Mr Men T’zim Sha or a Mr Men Pting?

Dr First, Dr Fourth, Dr Eleventh and Dr Twelfth will be followed with eight further titles, one for each doctor. The text is rather simple and straightforward. Hargreaves aptly captured the essence of the Fifth Doctor's stoicism fairly well. The illustrations are a perfect combination between the Doctor Who and the Mr Men and Little Miss universes. The Fifth Doctor depicted really looks like Peter Davison from the Mr Men and Little Miss universe. Dr. Fourth is a children's picture book written and illustrated by Adam Hargreaves and is a part of the Doctor Who Meets Mr Men and Little Miss series, which tells a story about the Fourth Doctor on the run with his companion, Sarah Jane Smith, from the Daleks who are chasing them. Today is National Dr Who/T.A.R.D.I.S. Day (23 November) and I thought it would be apropos to read this today. What can we say about the Daleks that hasn’t already been said many, many times before?! These intergalactic pepperpots have been exterminating the galaxy since 1963, enjoying television adventures with every incarnation of the Doctor so far. The Daleks, created by a scientist called Davros, are from the planet Skaro and embarked on a long battle with the Time Lords known as The Time War. Read more here.
