years later, Charles Morton, the inventor of the modern Music-Hall, presented this surprising dance on the Oxford stage. He renamed it the French Cancan because it came from France and caused a stir. Soon after it appeared in Oxford, the socially aware dance was banned for being too daring. You can look fabulous in a traditional can-can dancer costume or select any of our other burlesque styles that appeal to your sense of high-spirited fun.

Paris in 1850 was buzzing with excitement. Theatres, comedy shows and public balls were booming. Some time after the emergence of the chahut, daring Parisian women decided to take up the frenzied dance as an outlet. At these events, one dancer made the news. Celeste Mogador, star of the Bal Mabille, set Parisian hearts aflutter with her unpretentious quadrille. She was an instant hit! Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together. At the beginning of the dance’s popularity, professional dancers appeared, though individuals still performed it, not a chorus line. Some men became cancan stars from the 1840s to 1861, and an all-male group known as the Quadrille des Clodoches performed in London in 1870. Women performers were more famous as compared to male performers. Women, in particular, used the cancan as a means to fight against strict Victorian values. When women were not supposed to be out of breath or show their ankles, lifting their legs into the air would have been very different; it was considered “disreputable” to be so close to another person at the time. The dance challenged political conventions and called for change. The modern can-can outfit has evolved to accommodate contemporary tastes while retaining its historical roots. Designers have played with fabrics, colours, and cuts to create variations that range from authentic reproductions to modern interpretations that incorporate elements of current fashion trends. This flexibility in design means that the outfit can be tailored to suit a wide range of body types and personal styles, making it an inclusive choice for costume enthusiasts.

Women who do not normally wear this type of costume should consider trying it for a fun and flirty change. They will find that they feel exceptionally beautiful, sexy, and confident. The Enduring Appeal of the Can Can Outfit Showgirls are among the most popular types of dancers, and they are just as popular today as they were decades ago. Today, however, there are many more costumes and dress wear available to showgirls than there used to be. Plus, acquiring this type of dress is much easier as well. Burlesque is a style of performance that originated in Victorian times. It has since taken many different forms from dancing, to performing satire and comedy, to striptease. It is thought of as a very sexy movement in performance art that is meant for adult eyes only. Burlesque costumes vary depending on the type of burlesque an individual is wishing to perform or emanate, but they are generally high in sex appeal and fun.

Preparations for the big performance are going more smoothly in the costume department, where 33 costumiers are permanently employed to look after more than 1,000 outfits and 800 pairs of shoes. For La Grande Soiree they’re tasked with updating existing costumes and making them more suitable for a pre-watershed audience. Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.The can-can, an exuberant dance popularised in the 19th-century French cabarets, has left an indelible mark on the fashion and entertainment world. Central to this cultural iconography is the can-can outfit, an ensemble that has transcended its Parisian music hall roots to become a staple in various contemporary settings, ranging from fancy dress and costume parties to burlesque shows, theatre, and even intimate personal settings. The French Cancan dance is an eight-minute performance facing the audience, during which dancers measuring 5’7” tall lead the dance to a piece of music by Offenbach. It’s an art that requires Parisian cabaret dancers to have balance, flexibility, acrobatic ability and rhythm. They have to be able to do the splits and perform impressive moves like the “port d’armes”, the “cathedral” and the “military salute”.
