About this deal

I love watching his YouTube videos and would highly recommend you watch them. I do, however, love books, something to have and hold. I’m old school. Some people find his approach authoritarian but, as with all parenting books, I would recommend you take the parts from it that suit you and your family. My daughter would never, ever do time out! When people told me to put her in timeout or on the naughty step, I would tell them to first produce a unicorn singing Sinatra. Do what you can.

Danielle’s note: Many parents struggle with shame around their neurodivergent traits, and can inadvertently shame their children for those traits as well. It can be easy to become caught up in all the things we can’t do, and all the ways we fail. But many of the executive functioning challenges ADHD folks have are just magnified versions of normal brain functioning, not failures at all. I love Scatterbrain for being an accessible, easy-to-understand explainer for why our brains do the things they do. It’s a reframe that we all need to hear sometimes. As a supporter of the idea to “parent the child you have”, Goldrich also provides ways for parents to tailor what they learn to their child. It also includes simple activities to help your child with the many aspects of ADHD, such as attention span and staying focused on tasks. What You Should Know Men with Adult ADHD: Improve Concentration, Increase Productivity, and Stop Feeling Like a Failure is a book about dealing with adult ADHD for men.

As it states on the cover, this book is aimed at children from 6-18 years. One mum noted that as it is written by an American Dr, the parts on the assessment process are obviously targeted at the US way of getting an assessment. It was still regarded as a useful book to have. One of my biggest concerns for my son is making sure he always feels loved, accepted, and understood. The first step on that road would be understanding himself. This is not just another book. This is a great book….Although aimed at parents, it has something for everyone involved with ADHD kids: teachers, psychologists, doctors, and family. I am not going to lend this book to parents (although I will show it to them) because they need to buy it so they have it on hand to read and reread.” —Pediatric News This book] totally saved our lives. I implemented some of the simpler suggestions, like using fewer words and gentle, but direct command-form language, right away, and they worked! It was amazing! She started doing the things I asked her to do at least some of the time! Over time, I was able to change how I was responding to the tantrums and other challenges, and we saw huge progress in my daughter’s ability to talk through issues, and tell me what was making her anxious, instead of just immediately tantruming. Since we listen to her and try to work with her to solve the issue once we know what it is, she’s begun to have more trust that we’re on her side and will help her, and since she feels more connected, her overall behavior is so much better. I would not have been able to make these changes without this book, and I’m really grateful for it.”

Books For Teacher/ Educators

The Explosive Child: A New Approach for Understanding and Parenting Easily Frustrated, Chronically Inflexible Children by Ross W. Greene First, it is important to create an environment that is conducive to studying and learning. This includes having a dedicated area for your child’s books, supplies, and activities that is free from distractions such as television or video games. You should also set realistic expectations for completing tasks, as well as providing positive reinforcement for the successes your child has in school or at home.

This led me to a search for parenting ADHD books, and today I would like to share my findings with you. Why books?A neurodivergent person himself, Ross-Child wrote this revolutionary book in hopes that it would help empower other neurodivergent people to develop their talents, appreciate their neurodiversity, and how to move through the world with confidence and clarity. The latest edition includes information from new books and resources, making this one of the most up-to-date resources available. There are many reasons why you might be looking for a good ADHD book for parents. Maybe you or your child is diagnosed with ADHD, and you want to learn more about the condition.
