About this deal

It takes as long as seven years to make (with all that time you’d think they could make it vegan!); Admittedly though, six years is to grow the coffee Tia Maria is no doubt a brand you will definitely have heard of before, it is globally renowned for its coffee liqueur, so it makes a lot of sense it’s the brand that has managed to incorporate the popular matcha flavour into a stable tea liqueur. The iconic Brandy Alexander is said to have been named after Troy Alexander, a bartender at Rectors, a famous New York City restaurant. He is said to have created the drink in the early 20th century. Although the traditional recipe calls for the colorless Creme de Cacao, it is even better with the elegant kiss of Tia Maria. Ingredients Since Tia Maria is similar to Kahlúa coffee liqueur, it's an excellent replacement in mixed drink recipes.

As well as the iconic original recipe, you'll also discover Tia Maria's newly launched matcha flavour here at House of Malt. Mixing naturally caffeinated Japanese matcha tea with indulgent cream, this green Tia Maria has a beautiful pastel colour and a unique, botanical taste you don't want to miss. This is almost as simple as the first recipe. The only variation is that you add milk, whatever amount to suit your personal taste, and stir. It's pretty hard to make a mistake in these drinks, but here a few possible scenarios that you'd need to change when preparing/serving. Enjoy the original liqueur made with coffee beans, Jamaican rum, vanilla, and sugar, or why not try out intriguing new flavours such as Tia Maria green matcha?

What is the Tia Maria Drink?

Bringing a coffee shop taste to home bars across the UK, Tia Maria Matcha is a uniquely fresh and naturally indulgent cream liqueur with the distinctive flavours of Japanese green Matcha tea extract, providing a floral and refreshing twist with a smooth finish. The result is a smooth and sweet liqueur that pairs perfectly with a variety of spirits and mixers. There is a 2016 Tweet from the official Kahlua account that seems to suggest that their Salted Caramel drink is vegan. However, we believe this pre-dates their discovery about the bone char and sugar so definitely avoid this for now unless they confirm otherwise. Kahlua Is Working on Becoming Vegan… Tia Maria is a high-quality coffee liqueurproduced by a company with the same name. The liqueur was invented in the 1940s and initially manufactured in Jamaica. The original recipe is made from Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, Jamaican rum, bourbon vanilla, and sugar.

In common with Tia Maria and many big-brand food and drinks companies, Kahlua produce more than just their standard beverage. They have limited edition specials, new flavours and their RTD (ready to drink) range but, sadly, right now, none of these are vegan. I really can’t quite pin down what I think it tastes like, but one moment it tasted like sweets, the next mildly like parma violets. Having looked up more about the drink, the flavours of matcha green tea are herbal and floral which is probably why I was getting those hints of flavour. There is definitely a note of vanilla too, which all lends itself to a tasty creamy drink that goes down very smoothly. Tia Maria's recipe is a closely guarded secret but, in their words, "So this is what I can tell you:How to make: SHAKE both ingredients with ice. Strain into chilled glass with matcha rim already in place. The difference in consistency is mainly due to one key ingredient in Tia Maria. It uses cold brew extract instead of roasted coffee beans. This extract makes for a more watery consistency and a better-balanced coffee taste with less bitter notes. That, in turn, means that Tia Maria requires less sugar to balance out bitter notes. This is perfect for people who regularly drink coffee with some kind of milk. Again, how much Tia Maria you pour in is according to your preference. 3. Tia Maria With Cola If you don't have a blender, let the ice cream thaw completely in the fridge (should take about 12-24 hours). Then whisk in the alcohol until completely incorporated. The original recipe was lost for many years before being rediscovered in the 1940s by Dr Kenneth Leigh Evans

Sounds like a decent marketing story to us. Their claim that the recipe was lost until the 1940s is also questionable as, according to some sources, the business Tia Maria International Limited was created in 1929. What’s more, other reports suggest the liqueur was made by the Jamaican firm Lascelles deMercado in the 1930s. Be Wary of Special Edition Pre-Mixed DrinksThe drink is 17% volume so not strong, and therefore nice to sip slowly without being overpowering. I will definitely be finishing off this bottle and purchasing some more; I’m excited to have expanded my drinking repertoire a little, even though I genuinely thought I was going to hate it initially! I still don’t like the strange green colour, and discovered that it left my tongue green tinted too but I can overlook that for the taste. I’ll be recommending people try it before writing it off due to the name as to be honest, saying it is flavoured with matcha doesn’t suggest it is going to be very tasty. This is however a drink to get to know, and if you like cream liqueurs you won’t be disappointed. It would be a particularly good Mother’s Day gift for any lover of cream liqueur based drinks. How much alcohol is in Tia Maria? It is 20% ABV (alcohol by volume), which is similar to Kahlua and other liqueurs. This drink is so basic, but it’s so good. All you do is spike a cup of hot chocolate (as much or as little as you want) with Tia Maria. You’ll feel like a kid again, but there will be an adult secret indide: coffee liqueur! 7. Espresso Martini Tia Maria is made from premium Jamaican coffee beans and a blend of Jamaican rum, vanilla, and sugar. Tia Maria is like Kahlua, but better! Take a sip and you’ll get a nuance in flavor that’s not present in the more straightforward Kahlua. Notes of caramel, citrus and vanilla swirl into the bittersweet coffee. It makes a killer Espresso Martini and a next-level White Russian. How much does it cost?

Kahlua is made from coffee, rum made from sugarcane, vanilla and sugar, the same as Tia Maria and also usually has the same ABV of 20%. Why Is Kahlua Not Vegan? Are there any Tia Maria substitutes?Kahlua is the best substitute, but you can also use other coffee liqueurs like Sheridan’s. Why we like it

Tia Maria is typically 20% ABV; That’s half the strength of most spirits… so you can have twice as much (…in a responsible fashion, of course!) However, this story is most likely only part of a marketing campaign and not the true story of the beginning of the coffee liqueur. The Morris Cargill Version Our latest innovation is testament to the essence of the brand and we can’t wait for our customers to raise a glass of our new Tia Maria Matcha with us.” Place all your liquid ingredients and the banana in a blender and top with a scoop full of ice cubes. Blend until smooth and creamy. Pour into a hurricane glass and sprinkle with chocolate. Closing Thoughts
