Let’s finish the play mat. Create two small button holes on the external fabric 3/4″ in from the edge.
Start by measuring a circle in your fabric. Fold your fabric into quarters. Measure out in a quarter circle with tailors chalk. I added string to mine, holding it tight at the central point then drawing out and round. Once you have one circle use it as your template for the other circle. My circles are 50″across (25″ string). From that mark, topstitch all around, creating an inner circle. This will be the tunnel for the canvas ribbon to pass through. When complete, this playmat measures approximately 19.5 x 19.5 inches. If you’d like to make a larger custom size, you may either enlarge the pattern at a copy shop, or use the instructions in the PDF pattern to create your own pattern.Due to the size I suggest usingfabric glue to hold them in place, then stitching along the edges in zigzag to firmly hold them in place. Paint on your central markings on the roads with fabric paint. long, 3″ wide strips of fabric(I would use a solid color.) You should have enough left over in scraps from cutting the fabric, but you might want to get a little extra just in case. Sew them together into one large strip. Make sure to put the edges right side together, so the seam doesn’t show.
Top stitch round the edge. Then stitch round again 1/2″ . This creates atube for feeding the drawstring through. Your playmat will be made from two pieces of fabric - a patterned piece and a plain water resistant piece, used as a lining. On the circle of fabric that you want on the bottom of the bag (but will ultimately be on the outside when it’s cinched up), pin the tube of fabric around the entire fabric. There should be about a 5″ gap between the ends of tube (if there isn’t, just cut off a few inches from one of the ends and re-sew.) Make sure to pin the raw edge of the tube on the outside of the circle.

It’s about 40inches in diameter, but if you want it a different size, you should be able to easily adjust the instructions below.Stitch all around the circle, 3/8 inches in from the edge.
