About this deal

You can expect a slightly darker look for the first few days so don’t panic whilst it’s drying – it’ll eventually come up much clearer and shinier.

Oils often come in natural colours or clear, and enhance the natural appearance of your wood,' explains Jimmy Englezos, senior product manager at Sherwin-Williams. End grain absorbs more than flat grain hence why it is often darker. To avoid this brush on a coat of the solvent used in the finish ie. water or white spirit etc. on to the end grain before applying the finish. Don’t panic, it’s a bit lively looking for the first week or two and then it’ll settle down to the colour you can see above 🙂Our courier will send you a 1-hour delivery window on the day of delivery and you have the option to change this if required at no extra charge or you can also let the courier know that you want the parcel left in a safe place. As with any kind of refinish, wait until there are several days of clear weather forecasted with low chance of rain throughout.

The age of the wood. Newer wood will have a higher moisture content and be tighter grained, allowing less oil to be absorbed than older wood which will look darker with the same oil. The last piece of good news is the different colours – follow this link and you’ll be able to find the colour you’re looking for, be it lighter or darker. However, don’t trust in the picture on the product, still give yourself a chance of maintaining sanity and do a test patch 😀 Allow to penetrate for 15 to 30 minutes, then apply the second coat without waiting for the first to dryAfter 20 minutes, apply another thin coat of oil on top of the coat already applied and then remove the excess oil with a cotton cloth. This will ensure the timber has soaked up enough oil to provide good protection. Then leave the area to dry for at least 24 hours before use. Apply the stripper to the first section using long, even strokes. Do not walk on a section that has stripper on it. Give it a goo while to dry – you can’t just rush in. I left my timber to dry for nearly a week as it had been thoroughly soaked and was damp for a fair while in places the sun doesn’t reach much. Obviously if you’re directly exposed to sunlight your timber will be ready to go much faster. I do warn though, don’t get too close or you risk ripping the grain and making it furry!
