Propane: Propane is the last of the ingredients used as a propellant for aerosol sprays. It’s not as bad as the previous two ingredients, but it’s not great either, as it is also a known irritant. Prolonged exposure to benzene carries serious health risks and consequences. Thus, the CDC and FDA recommend that consumers be aware of ingesting or consuming benzene in products, as well as the environment. There are several different kinds of phthalates (as well as other endocrine disruptors) that are allowed as “fragrance” ingredients. Since Batiste does not disclose their fragrance ingredients or explicitly say they’re phthalate-free, we cannot confidently say they’re phthalate-free. The supply chains that bring consumers their grooming products are complex, globe-spanning endeavors, making it difficult to determine precisely where the toxins are introduced.

In other words: Batiste dry shampoo COULD be cruelty-free, but we can’t be sure that some of their ingredients are not tested on animals. Who Owns Batiste? It’s important to keep in mind that benzene has not been added to these products intentionally; rather, it is a contaminant. This is why it’s practically impossible to tell whether or not a certain product contains benzene without someone actually testing it.
