About this deal

Is it fair to say that choosing a mattress is one of the most important decisions you can make in life? We certainly think so. The fact is that a good night’s sleep is the key to well-being. We sleep for one-third of our lives, which also means we spend roughly one-third of our life on different kinds of mattresses. Needless to say – a mattress matters! Everyone sleeps a little differently. Understanding the different mattress types will help you choose one which suits your sleep perfectly. Different types of IKEA Mattress A European double bed and mattress measures 140cm wide and 200cm long. This is equal to 4 feet 6 inches wide and 6 feet 6 inches long. They’re the most common EU bed size, offering plenty of sleeping space without taking up too much room. Choosing a mattress requires you to consider the softness or firmness you prefer, but also what size feels most comfortable, and whether there’s a particular material that helps you sleep well. If you find yourself often waking up with aches or pains, chances are you need a different kind of mattress entirely. Foam and latex mattresses As for the standard size of a double mattress in the United Kingdom, this tends to measure 53 inches x 74 inches (135 cm x 190 cm). Italy, on the other hand, refers to double beds as square beds. They classify their bed sizes by using the term “Piazza” (one place). A single mattress is one place, whereas a double mattress is one and a half places. The standard size for a double mattress in Italy is 120 cm x 190 cm or 120 cm x 200 cm.

This is the same length as a standard double but 15cm (6in) narrower, which is why it’s also known as a small double mattress. An emperor mattress is the biggest you can get, easily big enough for two larger-than-average adults and basically an enormous square. Our spring mattresses also distribute your weight evenly, so that there’s no extra pressure on any part of your body. A key difference to the foam and latex mattresses, however, is that the open spring construction helps air flow through the mattress. This supports the ventilation in the mattress and can help you keep cool while you sleep. For some, it may give the mattress a fresher, airier feeling. IKEA Mattresses in different sizes As with the European versions of the single and doubles, the Euro king-size mattress is a fraction bigger than a standard king-size. A European single mattress measures 90 x 200cm (approximately 3ft x 6ft 6in), making it 10cm (3in) longer than a standard single.

This is because, in the UK and Ireland, manufacturers are permitted a tolerance of +/- 2 cm of the measurements that are stated. While a king-size can be a fair bit more expensive than a double, it will provide a lot more sleeping space. This should be enough space for the average adult to roll into a different sleeping position during the night. Meanwhile, the most common double bed size for countries in Northern Europe such as Poland, Germany, Netherlands and Sweden is 180 cm x 200 cm. There may be some slight variations between Northern European countries, however, this is the most standard measurement.
