About this deal

When learning how to mix colors, you can see that each color is related, and that they all stem from the same basic shades. When mixing paint colors, you really only need to start with three primary colors to reach a much wider range of tones. The original Camelot Wheel is coined by the “ Mixed in Key” brand in collaboration with Mark Davis, and it is the only ‘official’ Camelot Wheel System. Various other brands have either bought licenses to use it, but in terms of legality, no other brand than Mixed in Key can ‘release’ different versions of the wheel. The genre of music I normally play is a combination of deep and tech-house. I like my sets to sound a little dark, but also quite groovy. So when I’m selecting music, here is a journey I often like to take my audience on (you’ll notice most of the songs I select are in minor notes):

Plan your lessons so you create one secondary colour at a time. Your pupils will enjoy mixing them and coming up with different shades. This Primary Colour Mixing Chart is a versatile resource that you can use in a variety of ways, such as part of a classroom display on colours to further support your teaching on this topic. These Colouring Mix Record Sheets are the perfect resource to help children experiment with mixing colours. These worksheets include '+' and '=' signs so that children can paint down their findings. For example, they can paint red + blue = purple. Another core benefit to harmonic mixing is that you will avoid mixing two songs with badly matched keys. Keys aren't compatible with every key, and sometimes mixing certain keys together will sound noticeably bad and dissonant. DJs should avoid this at all costs In the example above, from a 6B song, the next one can be 6B, 6A, 7B, 5B (T-method), or 8B (energy boost). Notice that you can mix a song in the exact same key (here 6B). That makes sense since they use the exact same notes! DJs who use the Camelot wheel and harmonic mixing techniques in their work will generally create much better mixes.

So 2A is NOT a note “higher” than 1A, and it is NOT a note “lower” than 3A. It’s important you remember this when trying to understand such discussions. So for a key of 2 (A or B), if you moved it down a note it’d be 7, up a note it’d be 9, down 2 notes it’d be 12, up 2 notes it’d be 4. A lot of people see these things and get confused. But it’s OK! The main thing to remember is they represent the same system but it’s just illustrated differently. The only key sync function on DJ hardware that follows our Fuzzy Keymixing rules is that on the Pioneer DJ CDJ-3000 players (kudos to Pioneer DJ), so if you’re DJing on these, key sync should usually give you good results. However, one thing to mention is you won’t be able to go the way diagonally. For example, you can go from 8B to 9A, but you can go from 8B to 7A. How to Analyze Your Music Library For Keys When it comes to DJing, you mix songs with different keys. You want to make sure that the keys you mix together are harmonically compatible - which is easily done by using the Camelot wheel from Mixed in Key - or associated tables.

To get analogous colors, you just look at the three colors that are next to each other in the color wheel. Just point to any part of the color wheel, and the three colors in a row will be analogous to each other. These are colors that are closely related, so they work beautifully when placed together. Charlene Lewis has been working for artincontext.org since the relaunch in 2020. She is an experienced writer and mainly focuses on the topics of color theory, painting and drawing. Yes, many DJs use the Camelot Wheel system for harmonic mixing. It’s become a popular tool in the DJing community for its ease of use and effectiveness in creating seamless mixes. Can a song be in two keys at once? Create and automate seamless transitions using a range of techniques, like EQ, filters, reverbs, echoes, a humble crossfade, cuts, or more. (You can also combine these in any way you like). Mix music in key with the Camelot Wheel. Developed for DJs, this wheel helps you easily mix harmonically, enhancing your DJing skills. For example, moving from the inside ring to the outside ring (or reverse) is one of the strongest connections, as this is changing to the relative major (or minor) key, which shares most amount of notes. Mixing songs in the same key gives the most natural sounding mix, and can make it sound as if two songs are actually one, making a super smooth transition. This Primary Secondary Tertiary Colour Wheel Template Poster includes more detail on how different colours relate to each other. Complete with handy arrows to denote which are primary, secondary and tertiary colours. The different types of key signature connections also create transitions with certain feels. Typically the energy and mood are changed in certain ways based on how the two keys relate. Experimenting with this technique with absolute key changes to these Camelot values can help you deliver a more impactful and even dramatic DJ set. Technique #3: Upshifting For example, you can move one step left or right around the wheel, or you can move from the outside to the inside ring (or vice versa).
