About this deal

Shoot through the chronograph window with a distance from the muzzle (for airguns) of about 10/20 cm. and about 40/50 cm in the case of a 22 LR caliber firearm. or similar. The apparatus will give the projectile velocity and energy readings in joules directly. The LMBR chronograph is the brainchild of Radoslaw Koziol an electronics/ telecommunications engineer based in Bartag, a small village in Poland. His original work started in 2007/08, and in his own words, was more a hobby than anything else. As often happens, matters started to get a bit more serious, and he changed the brief to produce a reliable practical device capable of producing data that would be useful to the shooting community. From my findings, I think he has achieved his brief and then some, but I’m getting ahead of myself. The essential companion for anyone involved with airgun maintenance. Of the three screws that appear on the front, above the screen, the one on the left is used to start the program, tighten it, with it we enter the mode of loading the projectile weights. With the other two buttons, indicate the weight of the projectile, one of the buttons raises and the other lowers the weight. Once you have reached the appropriate weight, press the left button again, in this way the weight of the projectile is fixed and the device is ready for use.

There are many functions in the LMBR chronograph that help us in our work to know what we have to do to reach our goals with a certain weapon or ammunition, the device calculates Averages, Deviations, Variances, etc. of a sampling, that is, a series of statistical data that helps us to know in depth the characteristics of a weapon and its ammunition by reading the effects provided by the chronograph. A well-used LMBR chronograph is a must-have for all shooting and hunting enthusiasts. However, if I put the JSBs through the wrong gun, this will drop to 590fps. There is no doubt that a faster pellet will take less wind and have a flatter trajectory, and there can also be a bigger difference between pellets with different head sizes. With four buttons, the Skan is simple and intuitive to operate. You can enter the weight of the pellets you are using, and the unit will not only provide a reading in fps, but it will provide an energy reading in ft-lb.

This week’s Shooting Times Podcast

The R2A chrono is supplied with 2 AA batteries and it is possible to connect the R2A chrono with a external power adapter (optional). Alsocan it be connected to your PC with a USB to RS232 cable (not included) The Combro cb-625 mk4 is a competent and effective tool. The unit is designed specifically for airgun use, while claiming (a little confusingly) to handle a maximum of 2,000+ feet per second.

The MagnetoSpeed Sporter chronograph kit is designed for use on barrels from 1/2 inch up to 1 inch in diameter and can accommodate muzzle brakes and flash hiders up to 2.7 inches in length. It is ideal for contoured rifle barrels (sporter barrels). The big advantage of a chrono’ like the LMBR R2a is the ability to place it downrange. The large 120mm aperture means that you can shoot it safely from a distance, and unless you are having a very bad day, you can shoot it safely. By testing different pellets downrange, I now know which pellets work the best in each rifle, and there can be a huge difference. So this is why a chrono’ like the LMBR can certainly help your shooting. If you take testing your air rifles seriously, you’ll really want to take a look at this chrono which is the last in our list of chronographs for airguns. According to Skan, police forces use a version of the product here to test potentially errant air rifles and pistols. Many airgun manufacturers are customers too. The Caldwell Chronograph G2 is also designed for powder burners and even bow users, capable of measuring projectiles up to 9,000 feet per second. Presented in a carry bag, the G2 comes with its own tripod, which can be adjusted between 80 and 170mm high.

So, let’s say your .22 rifle gives a reading of 530 fps. With 16 grain pellets, that would be: (530 x 530 x 16) / 450,240 = 9.98 ft-lb. Fortunately, if maths isn’t your thing, plenty of calculators on the internet will do the number-crunching for you. To start the process, you are going to need to input your pellet weight, which has a maximum available value of 600 grains – imagine the trajectory of that pellet! Once done, shoot down the centre of the open aperture, where you will have a choice of viewing various items of valuable data, available in imperial and metric units. At the very least, you are going to want to see velocity, and this over a series of shots. From a string of shots you can choose to see the maximum, minimum, average, and the difference between maximum and minimum velocities. The chronocan displaymetric (m/s) or imperial (fps) readings and it will calculate the power settings based on pelletweight and pelletspeed. It is suitable for arrows, airgun pellets and BB.Do not buy imitations of the LMBR brand, they only look alike on the outside, see that the LMBR brand is engraved on the front of the device. Made in the USA, the ProChrono DLX Chronograph has a velocity range of 20 – 9,999 feet per second, memory capacity of up to 9 strings of up to 99 shots each, and a shot timing resolution of 31 nSec (8000 counts @ 4,000fps). Its crystal controlled accuracy is +/- .5% of measured velocity or better, making it a reliable and accurate tool for measuring the velocity of projectiles in various shooting sports. As with all products, it’s worth taking some time to consider the supplied instructions, which for me wasn’t the easiest set to follow, but I soon got the gist of things and then it was plain sailing. ALL THE MEASUREMENTS

There really is no excuse for exceeding the legal power limit and that’s where chronographs for airguns are useful kit. Manufacturers go to extraordinary lengths to ensure their products comply, and licensed gunsmiths know that any breach would have serious consequences for their livelihood. (Read our list of the best airgun pellets.)A chronograph is also essential if you plan to tune your airgun by adjusting factors such as regulator pressure and hammer spring tension. The measurements you take will reveal what effect your adjustments are having on the pellet’s velocity and your airgun’s muzzle energy. A chronograph is a device that is used to read the speed of the projectiles that we launch with any type of weapon, from a humble slingshot to an Express rifle for big game hunting. Okay, but how will all of this help me to improve my shooting?’ I hear you ask. Well, it will help in four main areas: Crudely put, chronographs measure the time it takes for a pellet fired from a gun to pass between two sensors. To work out the energy output, the feet per second (fps) reading has to be multiplied by itself, then multiplied by the weight in grains of the pellet and divided by 450,240. By shooting trough the LMBR R2A chronographthe display shows you the exact pellet speed and power of the rifle. The simple and decent design makes the chronovery easy to use.
