Comparing to the other two fragrances, Kalemat is less tip-of-the-tongue sweet than 24 Gold (definitely) and even Raghba (slightly), so it's deeper and reveals more in the dry down as far as an amber/wood blend than its two counterparts.

Over the next 8-10 hours, the rose fades out, then the incense, leaving only the driest cedar-like scent, like the inside of an ancient chest found in an old Cairo apartment. So, sooooo very different from Arabian Oud Kalemat. I mentioned earlier that it reminded me of Buddhists’ incense burning and that sweet tobacco feel (more strong of the two). It is comforting, at least on the incense influence because that’s what I grew up with and I like that scent. I didn’t really notice any other scents (no experience so can’t speak for sure) but those two first and foremost. My nose feels oddly cleansed (but slightly clogged up from something else) if that makes sense and as I wrap this up, it is not as strong as first spritz (or, the first official one after making sure it could spray) and the sweet tobacco (hmm…doesn’t make me cringe but I’m undecided) comes out more so now. Probably something else as well but can’t put words to it. I kinda want to spritz some more on… The first fragrance was launched in 2012 and the latest in 2021. After now trying Kalemat (by Arabian Oud) a couple of times, I can confirm, in large part, the consensus that it's very similar to 24 Gold by Scentstory and Raghba by Lattafa Perfumes. I play favourites, adoring Guerlain and Givenchy, but more and more people in the blogosphere started raving about this, describing its depths and longevity, so I blind-bought it. In no way was I disappointed. In ancient times, books were rare and precious objects. The learned elite treasured them. Scholars and holy men spent countless hours transcribing and illustrating them. Calligraphy held a place at the high table of the arts.

Kalemat is like a bewitching fog that we do not get out of. Its heady scents are the fruit of the subtle blend of white leaves of tilapia musk associated with rosemary and amber flower. Its soft, exotic touch comes straight out of mahogany and cashmere woods. The light scent of Kalemat anise gives a sweet sensation. They bind and complete this dream of perfume. This might lead some to believe that Raghba isn't worthwhile, but it all depends on price. It scores lower for the oud note interpretation, but this was something made on purpose to avoid cloying perfume compositions. Lastly, throw in your SCOTTISH Shortbread cookie(s) & leave it in a cool dark cabinet that's undoubtedly in a smoke free, pet free (nothing against pets) home and apply to pulse points as needed; sorry...craved. Initially, right as it was first sprayed and started to dry on the skin, it was a burst of sweet berry jam, which immediately transitioned into a blend of lightly sweetened honey and smoke and some rose. Over the next hour and a half, everything seemed very well-blended; there were few notes that really stood out–a blend of barely-sweetened florals with bits of woodiness, spice, and a sly hint of greenness. It made me think of honeycombs set in a lush garden during late fall, as I still detected the underpinning of smoke, more tobacco-like than incense-like. There was a general sweetness and rosiness that was most notable for the first few hours of Kalemat with a little spiciness and woodiness. After four hours or so, it became a softened blend of amber, woods and musk with honey drizzled on top with a flourish. It’s such a cozy, warm, perfect-for-winter scent. Less heady than some of my other go-tos but not a subtle scent either–it’s a very comforting and warming.Kalemat is everything I had hoped it would be. I've been searching for an authentic and wearable Arabian scent. It is no easy thing! I've sampled virtually every offering from Amouage, a number of rare attars, low cost oils from al Rehab, and various western "interpretations" of middle eastern fragrances. None has come close to Kalemat. It is a deeply relaxing scent, perfect for stressful days at the office. It speaks something of eternal truths, of timeless values, of the cycle of life-death-rebirth that renders all of our transient worldly concerns puny by comparison. Kalemat then does a Thierry Mugler Pure Wood impression on my skin for the next 30-minutes. Whatever the cashmere wood is doing, along with the other notes, reminds me a lot (not identical) to that rich/creamy oak note in Pure Wood. I literally did not remove my nose from my skin for those 30-minutes.
