About this deal

Carracci was one of three brothers, including
the more famous painter Annibale, who did much to pioneer the seventeenth-century Baroque’s propulsive and detailed style of painting. Agostino himself was recognized as one of Italy’s finest engravers, thanks to the fine prints he made of paintings by contemporary masters, among them Paolo Veronese, Antonio Allegri da Correggio and Tintoretto. This particular series, though, is of his own design and shows him to be a talented artist in his own right, able to re-create classical themes and tell stories in a clear, concise manner. While the Whatever the historical truths, Katharina Kranichfeld sees many parallels between the experience of Lucrezia Borgia, her own experiences of sexual abuse, and the way that facts and rumours around the misuse of power are still rife today. This powerful series of etchings and paintings, made in 2010–11, is one of her most striking works. We show here the coloured versions, where the pale turquoise of a naked Lucrezia is contrasted with the purples and reds of church and court, the uncoloured etchings, and the paintings from the same series. Portrait of a Courtesan as Flora (assumed to be a portrait of Lucrezia Borgia), Bartolomeo Veneto, c.1520 Despite strictures from religious authorities, people down the years kept these images safe, aware that what we imagine can arouse us at least as much as the readily apparent. Romano had trained under the Renaissance master Raphael, many of whose more widely known works Raimondi also engraved.

The Borgia family dominated Renaissance Italy, and has sometimes been described as Italy’s original crime syndicate. Much maligned for their misuse of power, the Borgias are now being reassessed in our age of more secular power politics. Were Alfons (Pope Callixtus III), Rodrigo (Pope Alexander VI), Cesare and Lucrezia dastardly characters, or stereotyped as Machiavellian? Were the Borgia popes abjectly sinful, or merely worldlier than was good for their reputations? Was Lucrezia Borgia one of history’s great vixens or her powerful family’s pawn? Were the Borgias simply victims of early biographers intent on character assassination due to gender politics, or a poor understanding of how political power must always be used? What are the parallels between the abuse of power in state and religion then and now? in which he emphasizes and repeats the words “very hard,” perhaps with the intention of increasing the eroticism of the piece. How erotic, or not, the experience may be, though, is of course entirely down to the individual participant. When Februs folded in 2004, I was exhausted and quite happy to give myself a break and change direction. Everyone has to adjust to the prevailing circumstances. I love the internet and I use the latest technology; couldn’t do without it now, but I still prefer reading actual books and painting and drawing with actual brushes and pencils. Purely for myself, I have chosen to paint women in an almost mythical setting – sometimes floating in the air, as I sometimes do in dreams. Trees have always turned me on, as I think has been reflected in a lot of my work to date. Any excuse and I bring a tree into the scene! More recently I have started to paint portraits of actual trees in my area. Some of the older specimens have a powerful presence, and I try to show my personal connection with them as well as revealing their radiance and majesty.

pictures were made between 1814 and 1823, when the artist was in his late fifties and sixties, and it is thought that he made some eighteen books in total. This sexually explicit image comes from his third book,

Erotica authors have done the work of categorizing the fantasy they created. You can sample the topics you think will arouse you and maybe you will surprise yourself with areas you didn’t expect would arouse. Erotica writers can be your link to mind stimulation, your personal imagination fantasy creators. Find your favorite and see what happens. Read Erotica for You. The giant central form in this painting is one
of Dalí’s signature, flaccid self-portraits, seen most famously in the foreground of In a career spanning more than four decades, the London-based artist Sardax has earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the world’s best-known contemporary illustrators of what has become known as femdom, short for female dominance. Though the term was only first recorded in 1986, the concept and practice are as old as human imagination, where mistresses, madams and dominatrixes are a constant theme in erotic literature and illustration. Our needs and desires change at different times of our life. I don’t feel the same need for physical intimacy now, although there are times when I would love to have those hormone-driven energy boosts again. I keep reminding myself that new phases bring new possibilities. I remember a male friend telling me once how testosterone acts as a sort of poison which interferes with the brain functioning of young men. He said he was relieved to be able to think more clearly now he was in his later years. This made me smile at the time, but I guess to a certain extent it must be true for women too. We all do mad things when we’re younger, and for a while our sense of proportion is thrown to the wind. ‘Old Major’, an illustration for FebrusThese fragments of larger, more graphic images tantalize us with their suggestions of what has been cut out, for they are all that remains of an explicit set of sexual instructions known as

We are also fortunate that Sardax has written about how what set him on the path of femdom illustration. In a 2015 blog post he writes: Your choice of fantasy may be directly tied to heightened total stimulation. That is, some fantasies will stimulate you and some won’t. This, too, goes on your investigation list.

We generally leave 1/4” - 1/2” of paper showing around the image, to accommodate signatures and for visual appeal. Because there is so much material that could be included, it’s important to have a clear idea about the criteria for inclusion. In many ways it’s easiest to say what I don’t include – I’m not very interested in unimaginative, repetitive and derivative work, especially if it’s just naked women in stereotyped poses. So no pin-ups or kitsch ‘girlie’ artwork. I don’t include extreme sexual violence, especially involving the degradation and humiliation of women; there’s far too much of that both in real life and in second-rate artwork.

Though the main focus of EAL is contemporary work, erotic art and illustration has of course been around since people started drawing and painting. To celebrate the vast amount of erotic art and illustration produced in the last two hundred years, EAL is offering two fascinating illustrated presentations by the founder and curator of the world’s largest and best-known resource for erotic art, John from honesterotica. For Artspace Auctions winning bidders are charged a 15% Buyer's Premium on top of the hammer price. artists depicted diving women being pleasured by octopuses, including Katsukawa Shunchō and Suzuki Harunobu. Yet Hokusai’s is the most alluring and certainly the most famous in the West, thanks to a biography and catalogue of the artist by Edmond de Goncourt, published in 1896. And the publication which hit that sweet spot in 1979 was Miss Sadie Stern’s Monthly. There it was, sitting on the top shelf, willing me to explore what it offered. In hindsight all the models were rather tired-looking and disengaged, but it didn’t matter; it was all so new and rare, and I was young. Sadie Stern only appeared once a month, so I reread every issue again and again.
