This brilliant series, brimming with comedy and compassion, has demonstrated that archaeology, just like the best crime fiction, is the study of everyday people . . . Elly Griffiths has honed her skills to become one of our very best writers. Bravo!” (For The Last Remains) — The Times (UK) Partly, because her department at the made-up University of North Norfolk is under threat of closure. I wanted to bring that in because so many wonderful archaeology departments are being closed and I think it’s really terrible, so Ruth has that on her plate.

The unmissable new book in the Dr Ruth Galloway Mysteries. Ruth and DCI Nelson are working on a murder case in which their friend Cathbad emerges as the prime suspect. Can they uncover the truth in time to save him? The Last Remains By Elly Griffiths is published by Quercus Books and will be launched at St Andrew’s Hall, Norwich, on Thursday February 2, at 6.30pm, in conjunction with Jarrold. Out on 25 April in the USA, The Last Remains launched in the UK at the end of January – and had the series faithful laughing and crying in equal measure. If you’re new to the Ruth Galloway series, this is not the book for you, but if you’re a regular you’ll delight in the subtle little reminders of previous novels and the characters they contained. The discovery of a body hidden behind the wall of a Kings Lynn coffee shop is the starting point for a story that has repercussions for many of the regular characters, with Cathbad in particular acting even more oddly than usual. A book to relish and a fitting finale. Read our review here.Author Elly Griffiths has announced that this 15th book in the 'Ruth Galloway' mysteries is the last in the series. The discovery of a missing woman's bones force Ruth and Nelson to finally confront their feelings for each other as they desperately work to exonerate one of their own in this not-to-be-missed Ruth Galloway mystery from USA Today bestselling author Elly Griffiths. The trail leads Ruth and Nelson to the Neolithic flint mines in Grimes Graves which are as spooky as their name. The race is on, first to find Cathbad and then to exonerate him, but will Ruth and Nelson uncover the truth in time to save their friend? When builders renovating a café in King's Lynn unearth a human skeleton, they call for DCI Harry Nelson and Dr Ruth Galloway, Head of Archaeology at the University of North Norfolk. Ruth is preoccupied with the threatened closure of her department and by her ever-complicated relationship with Nelson.

Andy’s an archaeologist and he mentioned that prehistoric people thought that marshland was a sacred place because it’s neither land or sea, but kind of something in between. They thought it was a link to the afterlife, and that’s why you get bodies buried there, the so-called bog bodies. All the bases are covered here. Life during the pandemic and the NHS phone app that told users when they had to stay home because they'd been in the same place as someone with Covid. Ruth's very real possibility of losing her beloved archaeology department and her job. Nelson's boss constantly harping at him to retire. Cathbad's slow recovery from Covid and his mystifying disappearance. New faces, like a detective constable named Lucy. Ruth's daughter Kate growing up so fast. And-- of course-- a first-rate mystery to solve. I steadfastly refuse to believe this is the absolute end. I doubt the author fully believes her fans will take this threat seriously. Ruth, her extended family and friends, will doubtlessly rattle around Griffiths’ brain and clamor for more attention. How It All Began The discovery of a missing woman’s bones force Ruth and Nelson to finally confront their feelings for each other as they desperately work to exonerate one of their own in this not-to-be-missed Ruth Galloway mystery from USA Today bestselling author Elly Griffiths. My publishers are going to be bringing out a book called Ruth Galloway’s Norfolk, which has some of these stories in: about the archaeology and history and some beautiful pictures. There’s an exclusive, it’s the first time I’ve mentioned it,” she says.

Cold Case Hits Close to Home

I understand the author plans to end the series but Nelson and Ruth will never last bc as I said, good sex isn’t necessarily a forever thing. It’s not enough to cement a relationship through the decades. It just isn’t. Is it helpful? Of course, but you have to have a much more solid foundation based on trust and shared interests and values to really have a longstanding relationship, imo. No pressure, then, to come up with a fitting finale to a series that has been going strong since 2009, with 16 books in total – but never fear, Griffiths fans, because The Last Remains does not disappoint. A storyteller from a young age, she wrote her first crime novel – an Agatha Christie-style story called The Hair of the Dog – when she was 11, followed by stories inspired by her TV favourites Starsky and Hutch.

The Last Remains does not disappoint . . . it will have you laughing, crying, gasping and staring wide eyed, because Griffiths delivers a thrilling roller-coaster ride.” — Crime Fiction Lover Another well-loved series character said farewell in Wild Fire, the last book in Ann Cleeves’ Shetland series. Griffiths expertly blends a well-wrought procedural with distinctive characters, academic politics, and romance. Fans old and new will be rewarded.” (For The Last Remains) — Publishers Weekly (starred review) What's it About? In the anticipated finale to the Ruth Galloway series, Dr. Galloway and DCI Nelson return with their team to solve a 20-year-old cold case to absolve their friend from suspicion. What a bittersweet experience to read The Last Remains, the final Ruth Galloway book. This series has been a favorite of mine. From the beginning, Ruth has been such a fully realized character I could see her clearly.Since there's a dearth of forensic evidence, most of the police investigation involves interviewing people, looking at photos, observing CCTV footage, and mulling over their findings. Ruth doesn't have a big part in the inquiries, and it's DCI Nelson's inspiration that eventually solves the case. However, the police find that Emily was involved with several men, so there are plenty of suspects......possibly including Cathbad. This is significant to the cops because Cathbad's life partner Judy is a detective on Nelson's team, and must be recused from the investigation. For someone who doesn’t believe in clairvoyance you’re expecting a lot of mind-reading from Ruth. She’s an academic. She needs evidence. Go and tell her that you love her.’

As it happens, Ruth's druid friend Cathbad (real name Michael Malone), who was 36-years-old at the time, was on the outing with Ballard and the undergraduates. That means you haven’t. Ruth’s life is changing. She’s having to make decisions. How can she make them if you don’t tell her what you feel?’
