Description

As his assistant, she spends a lot of time in his house and she witnesses his one-night stands, even a foursome with three women. However, the numerous women he brings home at that first week stops abruptly and he doesn’t sleep with any other women after that.

Ben is one of the most swoon worthy MMC's I've read lately...to live inside his brain. The way he pays attention, the way he cares for Gemma and the term actions speak louder than words is quintessential Ben. The writer took out a lot of emotions from me: joy, jealousy, sadness, anger, disappointment, love ❤️ There's nothing like a good old fashioned, snippy , bantery , enemies to lovers office romance to revive your zest for life.'He’s frozen. There’s confusion in his gaze, and the tiniest seed of dawning terror. “What?” he barks. This book was so incredible, such an amazing reminder that women can be fierce, strong, cruel, brutal, speak their mind, fight for themselves, express their sexual desires and own every aspect of their lives without ever having to apologize for it.

One other thing about this book that bothered me, that I feel deserves a mention... once again, the heroine is "not like the other girls". She's better, smarter, prettier, wittier, etc. The "other girls" are just skanks who are only good for sex. But the heroine - she's amazing and deserves everything. 🤨 SWE or Unsafe depending on preference: Hero is a manwhore who has sex with multiple women and has the heroine send them home the next day. We don't get the hero's POV, so we don't really know when/if he stops. We just know that he doesn't do it in front of the heroine after the first 20% or so. Otherwise, it is never actually clarified. The heroine has only ever been with 2 men. Her b/f of 10 years, and a ONS. Bad sex with both. After the initial 20% of the book is over, there are CONSTANT reminders about the hero's sexual escapades, so while he may not be doing anything explicitly, it's frequently mentioned. There's a separation before the end and it's not clarified if there are other partners for the hero. Given his sexual past, I wouldn't be surprised. I was going to give it a B+ but I’ve talked myself into a B+/A- as I’ve written down my thoughts. Excluding The View was Exhausting, which I only read very recently, I haven’t read such a great m/f contemporary in years. It’s definitely going on my Best of 2022 list. For example, I found very degrading that someone like Gemma would throw a fit and get drunk over something so clichéed as a miscommunication trope moment. This was such a fun read and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I loved the animosity between Gemma and Ben but he was secretly obsessed with her the whole time😏.But Gemma is determined to change the system from the inside and make the firm and the cases it takes on more equitable to women. She devotes almost her whole life to work. Her apartment is barren and she has only one indulgence, a collection of expensive shoes. She dreams of a relationship with someone nurturing, a vet or the owner of a Christmas tree farm, and a life straight out of one of the romantic, sentimental Hallmark movies she and her mother watched together when she was young. Cue, Ben being one of the best book boyfriends ever. He was so good to her, so patient, so open and wonderful. Which gives them time to get to know one another despite their mutual attraction. And to live up to the potential the other sees. I loved the support they give and their response to that care is very heartwarming. Give it a talented writer such as O'Roark and make it more sophisticated and with two likeable main characters instead of minus one.
