Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment is gel used to zap zits individually. The problem with the treatment is that it is mostly made of alcohol, which dries out the skin. The alcohol can kill acne bacteria on the surface of the skin, but the drying action of the alcohol may trap other acne bacteria inside pores. We have better news regarding the three magic abilities of vitamin C: there is in-vivo (tested on real people) data showing that SAP does have photo-protective (aka antioxidant) properties, though less than pure AA. SAP might also aid collagen boosting;in-vitro (made in the lab) data shows that it works, but is less effective than another vitamin C derivative, called MAP (that seems to be as effective as pure AA). As for skin-brightening, there is a trade publication with in-vivo data showing that SAP can fade brown spots. Anyway, I'll try to be a little kinder to my past self, because without that want to learn I wouldn't have got to the point where I am (almost sadly) reading one dermatology related skincare study every few days. The main concernwith nanoparticles is that they are so tiny that they are absorbedinto the skin more than we want them (ideally sunscreen should remain on the surface of the skin). Once absorbed they might form unwanted complexes with proteins and they might promote the formation of evil free radicals. But do not panic, these are concerns under investigation. If those aren't right don't even try with treatments, because without the base to skincare, there is little to no point. The remaining products in this group all contain so much menthol (or menthol derivatives) that they can inflame the skin. If you use them, you will certainly notice irritation. Ingredients: Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Glycerin, Acrylates Copolymer, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Phenonxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance, Disodium Edta, Citric Acid, Sea Salt, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Laminaria Saccharina Extract, Ethylparaben Deep Cleaning Astringent for Sensitive Skin also might not be all that bad except for the fact that the alkali in the soap cancels out the exfoliant ability of the salicylic acid added to the product. The product is at least not harmful to the skin. Deep Cleaning Astringent also has salicylic acid in a high-pH product that neutralizes it, along with alcohol that can dry out the skin.

Anyways, I've never really seen anything about Clean and Clear products on here. Maybe it's because I haven't spent much time here, or maybe it's because it's a terrible product to be using and no one talks about it because it's common knowledge. I was just wondering what you all thought of the products they have.

The product also contains a tiny amount of alpha-hydroxy acids that are supposed to exfoliate the skin, but the soap in the product changes the pH so the alpha-hydroxy acids won’t work, and they just get rinsed off the skin in a few seconds, anyway. If you are over-stripping your skin it can cause this strange extremity of oily/dry combination skin, which is what I had at the time. This extreme imbalance makes any acne you try to deal with worse. Instead of over-stripping, hydration can actually help reset this and help your acne be better.
