The other wonderful thing about this book was it gave me an insight into how Mexicans think and behave. Obviously I live with one (a Mexican that is) and have a small handle on her behaviour patterns but it was fascinating to discover that instead of Maria being a totally unique individual, she is also a product of her country. There was a lot of familiarity, for me, in the book. Place names, Spanish/Mexican expressions, a general understanding of "that's the way they think" and a total recognition of "that's the way they dress and wear their hair". Pérez-Reverte’s literary thriller explodes with history, heartbreak [and] determination…An epic suspense story of heart and grit.” —Entertainment Weekly (Editor’s Choice)A Martínez as Sheriff Jed Mayo (season 3), a corrupt sheriff in Phoenix whom Teresa and James are forced to work with.

The Queen of Sheba sought the wisdom of Solomon for her many questions. For she had “heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the LORD, [and] came to test Solomon with hard questions” (1 Kings 10:1). And God had granted Solomon the gift of wisdom (1 Kings 3:5–12), so “nothing was too hard for the king to explain to her” (1 Kings 10:3). A modern-day epic...bearing the unmistakable ring of authenticity and a slam-bang narrative sure to resonate with legions of appreciative readers...All the core elements, after all, are here: love, violence, betrayal and honor." --Los Angeles Times Bret Cullen as Cole Van Awken (season 2), Kelly Anne's husband, Camila's lover and lawyer. He is instrumental in forging documents that lead to the fallout between Camila and Teresa. Cory Hart as Detective Randall Greene (season 4), a corrupt New Orleans cop who is Judge Lafayette's right-hand man

Teresa’s old enemies from Mexico hear her name as she has become an important player in southern Spain and send a crew to take her out. Pote is part of this crew, which gets intercepted by the Russians. Pote manages to convince Teresa that there is no place for him in Mexico and she takes him as her personal guard. Teresa starts an affair with her lawyer Teo Aljarafe, who is married with two children, with the understanding that there are no strings attached. Patty, whose use of drugs and constant partying have escalated and clouded her mind, commits suicide as she cannot overcome the jealousy she feels for Teo. Patty’s death affects Teresa deeply and it is her personal friend Oleg Yassikov, who helps her through this difficult experience.

David Andrews as Judge Cecil Lafayette (season 4, recurring season 5), a corrupt judge who makes things harder for Teresa's drug operation in New Orleans [19] A modern-day epic…bearing the unmistakable ring of authenticity and a slam-bang narrative sure to resonate with legions of appreciative readers…All the core elements, after all, are here: love, violence, betrayal and honor.” —Los Angeles TimesAnderson, Erik (November 13, 2017). 'American Gods,' 'Outlander,' 'Novitiate,' 'The Post' Among 19th Women's Image Awards Film and Television Nominees. Speaking to Fox 7 in 2016, actor Gadiot said: "I think it's a really interesting opportunity actually, because obviously a lot of these characters have a different incarnation. El libro cuenta con muchas palabras o frases groseras, pero al ser un reflejo de lo que somos los sinaloenses, hasta diría yo que se quedó corto, ya que eso sí, somos muy "folklóricos" para hablar, por decir lo menos. Es una bocanada fresca el ver personajes de libros que no hablen y "piensen" como intelectuales... Estos personajes son humanos y hablan como el vecino, además son sinaloenses jajaja que puede salir mal. Metcalf, Mitch (August 30, 2019). I know next to nothing about Mexico and the drug trade but I do like how realistic the story and characters feel when I read the book, I also like The Count of Monte Cristo references in the story a lot.
