About this deal

Harry is the managing director of a design agency. Mia is his secretary. Harry is happily married to Karen, a stay-at-home mother. They have two children, Bernard and Daisy. Mia behaves in an overtly sexual way with him at the office and asks him for a Christmas present. At the company Christmas party held at Mark's gallery, they dance closely. It is scenes such as Grant’s infamous boogie that render the film utterly ridiculous – and therefore endlessly rewatchable. The idea that “David” is “running the country” or engaging with literally any political issue while he flirts with Maggie Thatcher’s portrait, gets distracted from his job by his sexy secretary, feels “cool” after being elected to office and sings carols on Wandsworth doorsteps is laughable. Well, spoiler alert: that is the entire point. The clue’s in the “com”. We are not watching a film about the British constitution. We are watching a film about love. Actually. Join Writer/Director Richard Curtis along the with cast and crew as they reflect on the making of the film and its legacy 20 years later. Unsuccessfully attempting to woo various English women, including Mia and Nancy, Juliet and Peter's wedding caterer, Colin Frissell informs his friend Tony that he plans to go to America, convinced that his Britishness will be an asset. Landing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Colin meets Stacey, Jeannie, and Carol-Anne, three stunningly attractive women who instantly fall for his Estuary English accent, inviting him to stay at their home, where they are joined by their roommate Harriet. [20] Standing up to the US President [ edit ] And unlike most romcoms, which tend to follow one relationship from meetcute to happily ever after, here we have multiple storylines, which present different romantic challenges for all the different characters. There is the silliness of the Prime Minister and his crush, but there is also, to name a few, Daniel (Liam Neeson) losing his wife, Joanna, and helping his son with his own romantic conquest; Sarah (Laura Linney) caring for her mentally ill brother; Jamie (Colin Firth) being cheated on; Mark (Andrew Lincoln) being in love with his best mate’s wife (Keira Knightley); Harry and Karen’s marriage and his affair with his much younger assistant. Slightly skimmed over they may be, but they do touch on some of life’s most painful situations and realities; Curtis, problematic as he is, leaves certain challenges untouched – but to get an affair, a workplace romance, unrequited love, a bereavement, a language barrier and friendship all in one film isn’t bad going. Juliet and Peter's wedding is videotaped by the best man, Mark, where a surprise band plays the Beatles' " All You Need Is Love" as they walk out of the church. Although the couple believe Mark dislikes Juliet, he is actually in love with her. When he evades her requests to see the video he shot at the wedding, she shows up at his flat. Juliet insists she wants them to be friends, but when she views the wedding video Mark recorded, she sees many extreme close-ups of herself and few of Peter's face. She realises Mark's true feelings towards her. After an uncomfortable silence, Mark blurts out that he acts cold out of "self-preservation".
