About this deal

The Legiones Astartes are indisputably the most famous of the forces fighting in the Age of Darkness, at the centre of every pivotal event and important battle. To field an army of Space Marines in Legions Imperialis is to choose the path of the Emperor himself – or the arch-traitor Horus, should the flames of rebellion smoulder within your foul hearts. The Space Marine force comprises a mix of infantry, Dreadnoughts, and tanks that represent the standard combined arms deployment for any of the 18 Legions of the Horus Heresy. Two Command Squads with tiny banners and a Centurion-level officer lead eight bases of Tactical Legionaries – each containing five miniature Space Marines. You should start with a couple of tactical squads with the sergeants having a power sword each. You can add bayonets or chain bayonets if you like, but these guys are going to be primarily shooting stuff and holding objectives, so it’s not as important for some legions. The titanic Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness boxed set contains a treasure trove of content, from a massive rulebook detailing the setting and stories of the Horus Heresy, as well as gorgeous photography and art, and all the core rules you need to play the game. The box also contains 54 Citadel miniatures – including a massive Spartan Assault Tank and a host of MKVI 'Corvus Armour' Tactical Marines – allowing you to build two opposing forces for out-of-the-box play, or construct a huge Legion force all your own. Alongside all of this, you'll get all the game accessories and rules reference materials you need to immerse yourself in the worlds of the Age of Darkness.

When a bolter and chainsword won’t do the business, the Tactical Squads of the Legiones Astartes turn to special weapons, forming Legion Tactical Support Squads. With six varieties to choose from in this comprehensive set of upgrades, no battlefield conundrum will go unanswered. This set contains 10 weapons each of six types – flamers, plasma guns, meltaguns, rotor cannons, volkite chargers, and volkite calivers. They’re designed to fit seamlessly onto the Mk VI Tactical Squad, with hands moulded onto the guns to fit your Space Marines’ arms. New Horus Heresy Primarchs & Releases

Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness will seem familiar to fans of past editions of Warhammer 40,000, but with a few tweaks. Let’s go a little deeper, to make sure you don’t turn up to the war-torn battlefields of the 31st Millennium empty-handed.

So while we hope that Horus Heresy re-ignites the hobby passion for a lot of players and potentially converts tons more to battles in the Age of Darkness, 100,000 copies of this new starter set may be a bit ambitious on Games Workshop’s part after the events of the past year and the state of consumer confidence in their products. Many of the miniatures found in Adeptus Titanicus and Aeronautica Imperialis can find new homes in Legions Imperialis, so to match the new road tiles and urban terrain, new bases are on their way. Engraved with an urban tile pattern, these range from 40mm round bases right up to huge 120mm oval bases for the largest Titans.* A miniatures showcase containing eight armies created by members of the Warhammer: The Horus Heresy Studio and beyond Dangerous, bloodthirsty, sparkling in daylight, the Blood Angels are a noble but brutal legion focused on fierce assaults. They want to be charging all the time, and that poses the same problems for this box set as it does for many of their brothers in arms who also like to run screaming at the enemy. The Horus Heresy left many cities as little more than bombed-out shells and networks of ruined roads, so why not build a beautiful battlefield of your own with new Civitas Imperialis City Road Tiles and Ruins sets? Both are modular and designed to work alongside other Civitas Imperialis sets, turning your games of Legions Imperialis from rough scuffles on bare tables to exciting war stories set amidst thematic, immersive environments.*

Getting 10 of each is just so much better than worrying about what you’re arming each model with. Let’s just hope they are easy to magnetize. We’ll have more on that as we approach release, but today we’re talking about all the fantastic miniatures in the box. So, grab a magnifying glass as we’ll analyse the models you get! This smörgasboard of Horus Heresy goodness doesn’t stop there – the fine minds at Forge World are also getting in on the action. The Primarchs This valiant chariot is based on one of the earliest tank designs ever created by Games Workshop, albeit with a vastly improved kit brought bang up to date for the 3rd Millennium. It’s the perfect way to ferry your footslogging Legion Tactical Squads between objectives. Mk III Tactical Squad

The Horus Heresy might have starred the Legiones Astartes, but they weren’t the only elite forces fighting in the conflict. The Solar Auxilia are humanity’s finest mortal warriors, and their armies could go toe-to-toe with even Space Marines through ironclad discipline, relentless firepower, and overwhelming numbers – if not mano-a-mano combat. For your Cataphractii you should run them with lightning claws – there’s little point running them with fists since you’re almost certainly going to be wounding on 2s anyway. Throw them in the Spartan which you should fit with, if possible, an assault cannon. The Contemptor can run full brrrrt with an assault cannon in the fist and a kheres on the other arm, if you can find one – if not, try and find a second fist with a second assault cannon. If neither of these are available, throw your preference of weapon on the other arm, you’ll find most of the choices can work well here. If you can’t find that many chainswords, consider instead making 10 or even 20 of the Mk VIs into veterans. Throw as many power swords as you can find on them, give them some combi-meltas if you can, bolters if you can’t, and throw a special or heavy weapon on the maximum number. These units will do good work in an army of this kind. The Imperium of Mankind, you say? Sounds pretty big. What does it look like? We’re glad you asked – this map shows the entire Imperium as it stood at the cusp of the Horus Heresy as the 31st Millennium dawned. It’s printed on a massive 1,000mm x 890mm fold-out poster, and it’s the essential guide to the galactic state of play. The Horus Heresy Legion Transfer Sheets The Contemptor’s right arm can take ballistic weapons in the form of a bolt cannon or autocannon, or a tank-busting melta cannon or lascannon. Meanwhile, the mighty left-hand power fist can be equipped with a built-in combi-bolter, heavy flamer, plasma blaster, or meltagun. And if you fancy adding some high explosives to your walking arsenal, you can even outfit your Contemptor with a carapace-mounted havoc launcher!

New Horus Heresy Edition & Plastic Starter Set

If you’re not then I would instead build two 20-marine tactical squads, loaded with chain bayonets and vexilla. They’ll footslog up the board and look to grab objectives, relying on their overall toughness and the Alpha Legion trait to protect them. Space Marines are formidable soldiers indeed, but you need more than just massed infantry to carry the day. That’s where the Kratos Heavy Tank Squadron comes in. You get four in a box, each tank bristling with sponson and hull guns, and with a choice of a Kratos battlecannon or melta blastgun for the turret.*
