Another important topic is that young readers are introduced to LGBTQIA+, which I think is fabulous, and there is even a little quiz at the end of the book to help with knowledge and understanding. Description "It's not about fame, power or money. It's about generations of tradition and making a difference, helping people who need it. That's our destiny." This is a space-borne version of the original G-10 nearly identical except for modifications to allow it to operate in Zero Gravity. Used almost exclusively by Freedom Station floating above Rifts' Earth. A new design created by Free Quebec, the Glitter Girl is a Reconnaissance and Intelligence-oriented suit. As its name suggests, the 2-20 is made exclusively for female pilots. Armed with a heavy assault cannon for sniper work and combat, and missiles.

The Glitter Boy is a Mega-Damage robot that is manufactured in only a couple of places in Rifts Earth, most notably in the Coalition State of Free Quebec. Glitter Boy tells the story of James, who starts his final year of primary school with a new gay teacher Mr Hamilton. He loves Mariah Carey and has a gorgeous relationship with his nan who loves him just the way he is but he finds his relationships with his friends deteriorate as homophobic bullying by Paul starts again, more children are involved and it starts to cause a rift between his dad and himself. NOTE: Temporarily reduce P.S., P.P., and Spd attributes by 1D4 until serious measures have been taken to restore strength by long hours of exercise and physical activity; at least four hours a day for 1D4 weeks. Periodic walks, exercise, and activity outside the body armor will prevent loss of muscle tone and strength. Although the Glitter Boy is generally considered a power armor suit, it is so heavily armored and powerful that it is listed under the robot category. Another robot consideration is its more developed environmental aspects. Power armor or robot, the Glitter Boy armor is a forceThere are a couple of fun quizzes at the and of the novel on LGBTQ terms and famous people. Ian doesn't shy away from highlighting the negative attitudes some have to LGBTQ people and the impact this has on them or those simply trying to work out who they are, and this novel is a great place to start a conversation about it. The contemporary topics and themes in this novel mean there is plenty to discuss and talk about, and would make an excellent book for the classroom and for any kids looking to see the importance of being themselves. A Polari-Prize-winning author presents an unforgettable story about a boy facing up to bullying - and his own truths. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to help their children learn more about the LGBTQIA+ society (especially general terms) as well as wanting them to read something about being the best them they can possibly be! It definitely helped in that I taught for thirteen years, so when I was writing about James’s school day it felt very familiar and fresh in my mind. I was able to think about what sorts of lessons James might take part in, what clubs might be taking place after school, what James might be having for his school dinner, and how teachers might interact with their students. As a result, I hope James’s life at school feels authentic and realistic. What are your top tips for young writers? Mae James wastad wedi bod wrth ei fodd yn dawnsio gyda’i ffrind gorau Harriet ac yn canu i ganeuon Mariah Carey gyda’i nain.

It shows from the offset how someone outgoing and bubbly can be dragged down by bullying, causing low self-esteem, to make someone feel they have no support, therefore pushing those they love away too. Glitter Boy was inspired by three things. The first was my own experiences of homophobic bullying – a lot of the scenes in Glitter Boy were things that happened to me. We had just also adopted a little baby boy and so being a dad and all that entails really influenced my writing and James’s relationship with his own father. Lastly, Glitter Boy was inspired by anger! Anger at how the LGBTQ+ community is being treated, anger that transphobia and homophobia seem to be on the rise, and an anger that our stories don’t often get told and if they do they focus on the ‘coming out’ stage. How did your experiences as a teacher influence the story? It's not about fame, power or money. It's about generations of tradition and making a difference, helping people who need it. That's our destiny." Included in the novel are poems written by James through which we find out more about what he is feeling and thinking. Keep a hanky handy when you read Forest of Memories which is written about is Nan. It's worth saying at this point the novel does deal with family bereavement. For me, the novel really captures the dynamics of a classroom well including friendships and some of the things kids find fascinating, like finding out information about their teacher and what really goes on in the staff room! Overheard in the staff room poem is very perceptive and accurate as anyone who works in a school will appreciate. His teacher, Mr Hamilton, is getting married to his boyfriend and it seems that James will be part of a surprise choir performance at the wedding. He meets Joel, a new boy in class, and they work together on a presentation about Marsha B. Johnson; and he sings in the choir, which is preparing a surprise song for Mr Hamilton's wedding, but the bullying is mounting and everything comes to a head. Glitter Boys are more akin to mercenary cyber-knights Like the cyber-knight, most Glitter Boys have seen many atrocities for many reasons Consequently, while some may have their prejudices, most are fairly tolerant of non-humans and open to most other life styles They do not hate or fear psychics, practitioners of magic, D-Bees, or mutoids, and will welcome them as equals Of course, these seasoned veterans are nobody's fool, and look upon all strangers with suspicion until they have proven themselves trustworthy Also like the cyber-knight, Glitter Boys tend to be wandering adventurers always in search of excitement While a few Glitter Boys are frequently found among bands of other warriors, they seldom organize into troops entirely composed of Glitter Boys This may be a conscious tactic, for while the robot armor is incredibly powerful, it is also comparatively slow and earthbound. A variation typically found in South America. Armed with a multi-barreled laser cannon and gatling railgun. Many G7s are built for female pilots. Leaping: The powerful robot legs can leap up to 12 feet (3.6m) high or across. Add 10 feet with a running start. Jet thruster assisted leaps can hurl the power armor 80 feet (24m) up or across. If necessary, the thruster can momentarily hold the GB a loft as high as 12 feet (3.4m) off the ground, but only for 1D6 x 10 seconds. The thrusters are not made for flying. Meanwhile, a different boy has been harassing James at school and calling him gay, and it's getting worse every day. James can find relief with his beloved Nan, she's been having worrying falls, and James can't tell anyone, or she might be sent to a faraway care home.

Keep a diary! I wrote in my diary from the age of ten until I was around twenty! Diaries are a brilliant way to encourage a love of writing because you can just write for your own pleasure and enjoyment. You can write about holidays, food you’ve liked, films you’ve watched, arguments you’ve had… all sorts! Do you have any favourite children’s books to share for LGBTQ+ History Month? Respected, because Glitter Boy armor was the weapon of the greatest heroes in North America throughout the Two Hundred Years Dark Age. Cargo: Minimal storage space; a foot compartment and storage for a rifle, handgun, survival knife and first-aid kit. The robot frame is nearly indestructible, resilient, and virtually maintenance free. The armor shielded joints and padded pilot's compartment enables the machine to absorb impacts and cushion its pilot. It is also one of the few robots or power armor designed to comfortably accommodate a pilot for days or even weeks if necessary. A refrigeration unit holds 10 gallons of drinking water, while another contains a high protein, multi-vitamin nutrient paste (about a four weeks supply), as well as a few other storage compartments where additional food or personal items can be contained. However, it is not recommended that the pilot remain inside the cushioned and air-conditioned unit for more than 24 hours at a time. The operator must exercise or muscles will begin to cramp and stiffen, especially the legs, which are the most restricted. Prolonged inactivity enclosed in the Glitter Boy or any armor (3 or more weeks) will also reduce muscle strength. This is an excellent book for showing the impact of under-the-radar bullying and how it can escalate to include lots of class members, while making the target feel helpless, confused and vulnerable. It is also joyful, though. Nan is a supportive presence, as are Harriet and Joel, a new friend. And, despite everything, James treats everyone with kindness. This would begin conversations about empathy, bullying, being yourself and about what being LGBTQ+ means. A variation of the Glitter Boy designed for Reconnaissance missions (the armor is painted in camouflage in the field). Typically armed with a rapid-fire laser cannon as its main armament, and a small railgun on the left forearm. Honestly, this book brought me to the brink of tears more than once. This is the book that Conor at 11 needed, but it didn’t exist. Sarah Webb first told me about this book, kindly saying that the teacher, Mr Hamilton, reminded her of me. I only hope that I can live up to the example that Mr Hamilton sets for all queer teachers out there. But this is the story of James, who is relentlessly bullied by his classmate Paul, and eventually by others in the class as well. It’s heartbreakingly familiar to me, and I’m sure all queer adults. James goes through all the issues there can be with friends, family, and even your own sense of self at that age, and Ian does a stellar job of portraying it. I will be using this book as a class novel the next time I teach 10-12-year-olds. It’s wonderful.
