About this deal

I'm definitely reading the next two collections at least, and hopefully will finish out the rest of the series sometime soonish. When he tell his fiancee, she replies that he did the right thing as life is not equal, and the director implies a similar thing later on, talking about the importance of money over saving patients.

Writing for Time, Pulitzer Prize for Fiction winner Junot Díaz praised the manga, proclaiming "Urasawa is a national treasure in Japan, and if you ain't afraid of picture books, you'll see why". This is the story of a doctor named Tenma, and his life changed the night he decided to save a boy's life. Urasawa later wrote and illustrated the novel Another Monster, a story detailing the events of the manga from an investigative reporter's point of view, which was published in 2002. Jedino što zaista mogu da zamerim jeste malo nastrano shvatanje japanskog autora nemačkog stanovništva (što je razumljivo, s obzirom na njihovu gotovo hermetičku zatvorenost) i čudnjikav art stil. Years later, in Germany during the tumultuous post-reunification period, middle-aged childless couples are being killed one after another.

Tenma sets out on a journey to find the killer's twin sister, who may hold some clues to solving the enigma of the Monster. Someone is bound to get short-changed, loose ends are bound to be left dangling, and even if they weren't, the simple truth is that no climax could ever live up to the series' build-up". Urasawa never will never shy away from having more human moments for the characters to let them grow. Suddenly, Junkers starts screaming and Tenma repels Lunge from further questions, considering it a disturbance. I remember that the story used to have me on the edge on my seat, and even the second time around, it was just as suspenseful.

If you are looking for a break from the usual fighting big sword blasting mecha type of Manga and want a deep and dark psychological thriller then MONSTER is for you. I have been following this series since the first volume was released and have just finished reading volume 13. There's no room for shades of grey here — Kenzo is a pure hero, a martyr, the only good person in the entire hospital, and his superiors are irredeemably shitty humans who don't deserve empathy. Tenma tells Johan that he knows everything about him, so it will be hard for him to run away if he kills Junkers, but Johan answers that this is not his real name and that no one can know about his past. When I stopped expecting a realistic gritty crime-noir drama (which is what I initially and wrongfully expected from it), I started to enjoy the book for what it is — a really entertaining and well-crafted pulpy action/thriller. But when the men who took everything from Tenma wind up suddenly dead, he's set down a path that will change his life forever. He has a beautiful fiancée, he's the head of the neurosurgery department at his hospital, he has the blessing of the hospital director, and the respect and admiration of all his colleagues. Late in the evening, Tenma goes back to his apartment in the drunken state only to find out by police that his superiors, including Heinemann are mysteriously murdered.

It won an Excellence Prize in the Manga Division at the first Japan Media Arts Festival in 1997; [30] and the Grand Prize of the 3rd Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 1999. Apparently this edition has a different translator than the initial volume does, so that's interesting. Tenma plans on getting married with Eva very soon and thanks her father for everything he has done to help him build a career in Germany. Even worse, he leaves no trace of evidence that would point to his existence, and poor doctor Tenma ends up dragged into his vicious game as the only person who knows about the killer and is capable of stopping him. He's attractive, has a sweet, childish lilt to his voice, but on the other hand, he's utterly brutal and heartless.porque hay mucho juego entre su profesión y todo lo que tendrá que hacer en su persecución por el m-o-n-s-t-r-u-o y limpiar su nombre. It was published by Shogakukan in their Big Comic Original magazine between 1994 and 2001, with the chapters collected and reprinted into 18 tankōbon volumes. Thankfully, Monster is pretty tame in that regard, not showing a lot of graphic violence and telling the story mostly from the hero's perspective. At the evening party held by Heinemann, he reveals to Tenma that he will neither offer him a chance to introduce his thesis at the academic meeting nor should he expect a letter of introduction in case he wishes to transfer to another hospital.

It's been a while since I've read any manga, but by being thought-provoking, gripping and atmospheric, the opening of this series is a wild success.

Next morning, Lunge questions Junkers about the case but is of no use, since the patient refuses to talk about it, or seems incapable of doing so. Usually with manga you get one bum volume every now and again, with a story arc that goes nowhere or just silly one-shot gag settings that may have seemed hilarious to the creator at the time, but are lost in translation. At Eisler Memorial Hospital, there is a young and brilliant doctor by the name of Kenzo Tenma who is living the high life.
