About this deal

It is received wisdom that the earliest Led Zep UK pressings – with a plum and red label, rather than the later green and yellow label – are the ones to have.

Double CD - Deluxe 2 CD package with the original artwork, plus the newly created negative artwork for the companion audio. I think a clean ’80s copy will be good for most people – sadly my copy of Led Zep II is poor and quite crackly, so I have a good reason to invest in the new ones as and when they come out. First a word about bootlegs: A bootleg is a recording that is not commercially available to the public (such as a live concert recording never released by the label). The fact that Physical was released in 1975 but Song wasn’t released until 1976 indicates that you have a later reissue of Physical (because the Song labels didn’t exist yet in 1975).That said though, keep in mind that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and just because it may be rare does not mean it’s valuable; it could be the only one in existence, but if nobody wants it, it’s worthless. The 2nd pressing has orange sleeve lettering with grey stripe at bottom on front cover and without Superhype credits with instead Warner Bros/7 Arts. I’ve got I,ll, and lll plus physical graffiti and possibly a couple more (its taking a while to go through! I also have the (SIC) “House of the holy” French pressing, pictured, which also sounds great, (has anyone compared it to the US RL version?

As I believe I mentioned in your previous Zeppelin post, I also have a Mobile Fidelity half-speed mastered copy of Zeppelin II which I played last week for the first time in nearly 30 years. I have a NOS Promo 45 of Zeppelin’s “Trampled Under Foot” still sealed in the FedClass mailer with a Green Swan Song label in Stereo on one side and a White label Mono Mix on the other side. I have a German pressing (ATL 40 031) which is very good, a first US pressing which is good but pretty worn, a Japanese pressing (P-10105A) which is excellent and the Classic Records 33RPM 200gm pressing. The great man himself later stated: “The Royal Albert Hall was, at the time, the largest and most prestigious gig in London". Hi Tracey, I can’t find any reference to a 1971 official release on pink vinyl, (I looked on Discogs briefly), so it could be a pirated copy, although difficult to say without further information or pictures. First formed in 1968, Led Zeppelin consisted of members Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham and J ohn Paul Jones. Because of this deal, all Led Zeppelin master tapes reside in a vault somewhere in the USA (likely, New York area).

So my strategy would be either to find an old, battered copy of Led Zep 1 that you could swap the bags around with (and then sell the record for what you paid for it), or better still, find an album sold by Atlantic around the same time as Led Zep 1 that also had the same bag (which is likely to be cheaper than a new copy of Led Zep 1) and swap them around that way.

Without these technologies, things like personalised recommendations, your account preferences, or localisation may not work correctly. The point about the louder pressings of LZ II jumping is new to me but I think that it was more likely caused by the engineers following Page’s instruction to record it loud, rather than them not following his instructions.
