This is no exaggeration; opening the box, tearing off the plastic and opening this legendary book for the first time was transformative. I admit, the one glaring issue the book has is some of the Nu World material is lost on me, as I never read the original arc.

Its not the entire book but just random pages, really effing annoying, i have better toilet paper, some pages are so thin you can look through and on some the lettering is all smudged, again i have never seen this bad quality on a Marvel omnibus. This book has feeling, intelligence, a fantastic story and some unbelievably good characters and fight scenes. After Hickman draws to a close what he’d built up to for three years the content is variable, although admirably varied.There's just so much here to sink your teeth into: sci Fi adventures, emerging societies, cosmic and intimate sized moments, and deep emotional moments. Like The Avengers or The X-Men, The Fantastic Four is a lynchpin in the Marvel universe, and a significant number of the publisher's other series revolve around its contents. Some truly wonderful sci-fi storytelling that explores really big ideas without losing focus on character. For, as the big brain of the Fantastic Four will find out, solving everything carries with it a great cost, and one that is perhaps too much to pay.

After reading House of X/Powers of X, X-Men, Inferno and Ultimates all by Hickman I can say with confidence that the sample size of my Hickman readings have come to fruition. The story is really cool, and most of its artwork is incredible, i mean Steve Epting and Nick Dragotta on a Marvel book, awesome. I've yet to read volume 2, Avengers/ New avengers and secret wars, but Hickman has become one of my favorite comic book authors. Hickman introduces a lot of ideas early on, and at some point you start doubting if all this will eventually have some sort of payoff.But I think the charm, the camp, and the whole hearted nature of the Fantastic Four elevate this story to a whole other level. I collect omnibuses and most of the marvel ones are black with minimal or no design, colour or font change, but this is lovely.
