The excitement comes from the adventures in the magic lands, and the short chapters offer a great number of them, including the land of ice and snow, the land of toys, the land of take what you want, the land of birthdays, the rocking land (not music related), and the land of the red goblins.

Soon they find the Faraway Tree, which is the beginning of many magical adventures… Join them and their new friends Silky the fairy, Saucepan Man and Moonface, as they discover which new land awaits them at the top of the Faraway Tree. As my husband remembered, there were some really hairy moments where if I’d been a child reading this, I might have been quite scared. Now, I would say this right here might actually be a bit racist, and it doesn’t really add to the story at all. The first land the three children visit is the Roundabout Land, in which everything turns constantly. One of Blyton’s best-loved series, ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ trilogy introduces readers to magical worlds and characters that pique their imaginations. Her books were terrific page-turners in the way no others were' Michael Morpurgo, author of War Horse. Three children living near an enchanted wood discover an enormous tree peopled with fairy folk, at the very top of which is a ladder that leads to a different magical land every few days. MAYBE, that would be the only thing partially justified to be removed from this children’s classic fantasy book. I also began reading lots more Enid Blyton and as a result became an avid fan of the Famous Five an.
