We work closely with publishers and authors to ensure that we offer the best books on the market for your child. I absolutely adored Ali Sparkes's Wishful Thinking, a book about a boy whose uneventful and "pathetic" existence is turned upside down when a Celtic Deity decides to "fix" his life. OK Dax had a tiny room with a small window rather than a cupboard under the stairs and his spoiled step-sibling is female, but you can see the close parallels.

This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees. He particularly liked the secret school Dax was taken to, the secret Government action in this book and the battle btw Dax and his protectors and the evil Professor.Dax is a sympathetic character, his interaction with his classmates and the unfolding story will appeal to children who are fans of Harry Potter and the X Men franchise.

The whole place has been fortified so that the Children of Limitless Ability won't ever be under threat again. I can recommend this book to readers that are looking for a HP-type book, or that don't mind the overlap. Once Dax was taken to the school, my mind kept screaming "Harry Potter but with X-men" for a few chapters.Because of something that happened in the earlier series, Luke can't talk, he is mute, so he and Gideon sign. Soon after (once Owen has explained and apologised) Dax is whisked away to Tregarren College [ citation needed] [2] to meet the other COLAs and become one of the students, the only Shapeshifter after the death of the wolf boy. References to current fashions and music are made in a way that doesn't intrude into the story and shouldn't date too quickly either. During the first book, Finding the Fox, Dax discovers his ability to shapeshift into a fox, and is whisked away from his hated stepfamily by the government. Eventually, after working backstage in London's West End theatres, being a Bluecoat at Pontins and singing in bands, she got a proper job as a reporter in her home town of Southampton before moving into radio and television.

The Shapeshifter books are all about COLA's - Children of Limitless Abilities - but all the books are written from Dax Jones' perspective. The whole setup seemed such a thinly viewed crib of the Harry Potter series: Boy with living unpleasant relatives suddenly discovers he has Special Powers. The plot holes at the beginning: Why doesn't Dax try to break a window in the garden shed he is trapped in? Ali's books have been translated into many languages from French and German to Latin American and Japanese. Many events unfold after this leading into another five books, in which Dax develops his shapeshifting skills. In a world where fantasy things are very much possible, it’s a brilliant twist for him to not actually be a vampire. I then went on to read the rest of the series, which weren’t as good as the first book, but still great.

The new prime minister has set up a crack force of experts to manage, contain and use the COLA resource in the best interests of decent hardworking British people. As soon as his powers become apparent, he is whisked away to a boarding school for other unusual children. The characters strike the perfect ballance between 'So now I'm a shapeshifter, but more importantly; what's for lunch? It couldn't be any other way, either, similarly to when Spaced tried to be American and it realised it couldn't bring itself to ever passably drive on the right, or say "like, like, like. All of our books are 100% brand new, unread and purchased directly from the publishers in bulk allowing us to pass the huge savings on to you!

As an animal lover I absolutely adored this book, I have read and read this book over 20 times and it never gets old! Of course it contains a lot of stereotypes (terrible stepmother, school for magic kids, etc), but some of those stereotypes it leans into well, like the kids all having dead mothers. Before reading the books, I was 'warned' that they are 'very like Harry Potter' and that 'the similarities are far too close'. While we're at it, why did the weather in their areas turn absolutely mad and stormy at the time of their births?
