An excellent ‘Documents’ section that allows a proper investigation of the movement’s theoretical bases. I recommend this book because it is an eye-opening read that demonstrates how we can find contentment in leading a minimalist life.

The proof is in the pudding though as they say, and I not only devoured the book in just a couple of days, I have also found myself looking at each room in my home with fresh eyes and (to my Husband’s horror) have decluttered even more, and already have plans in mind to declutter other rooms I haven’t gotten chance to go through yet (you have been warned family! On Minimalism moves from the style's beginnings in psychedelic counterculture through its present-day influences on ambient jazz, doom metal, and electronic music. Minimalism does have this tendency to erase its own background; it always presents itself as if it’s this new idea, to throw everything out and start over.Follow the step-by-step instructions we used when starting our blog, which now has reached more than 20 million people. This approach is accessible and manageable for wannabe minimalists like myself, who still have to contend with four-season clothing and energetic children with many accoutrements. I’ve been trying to encourage my mum to declutter for a while but this section made me realise I had been going about it the wrong way. I recommend this because “Biblical Minimalism” is the perfect book for those who want to live a more minimalistic life while aligning it with the teachings of the Bible.

This book is an excellent guide on how to simplify life, stay true to God’s Word, and reduce physical possessions. I've been on my minimalism journey for a while now, and I wanted to share my top 10 favorite books on minimalism that have really helped me along the way. It was around the halfway point that I felt that I had already gleaned all the useful things I needed from this book.

Ruth Soukup offers guidelines for keeping our lives as simple as possible and changing our perspectives. It’s also to turn our life’s HQ–our home–into a launching pad for a more fulfilling and productive life in the world. What’s more, this book is eco-friendly and encourages readers to donate and reuse items rather than simply sending them to a landfill. Below, I have compiled a list of 15 excellent books that you should read if you want to deepen your understanding of minimalism and become a better storyteller in this context.

I know I started this article by saying that minimalism is what you make of it, but I meant this in the context of material belongings, which in turn can lead to mental baggage. Personally, and this is just my own bias, I think no political or social movement can exist without a cultural aspect, a coherent cultural production.I think, when confronting something like climate change or just the superhuman scale of everything that we’re dealing with right now, there is that desire to live more in the shadows, or to just live with what’s already around us—to live more quietly and softly than we have before. Stuff accumulation and hoarding have reached epidemic levels, resulting in more stress, more financial burden, less freedom, and decreased life satisfaction; we are literally drowning in clutter.

Overall this helped me overhaul my bedroom, and I got rid of a large number of toys, clothes, unwanted gifts from my room. I’ve seen climate change described as a ‘hyper-object’—that is, something too complex to truly comprehend or focus on at once. Check out Minimalism Montessori Scissor Skill Workbook: Clean And Simple Scissor Activity Book For Toddlers And Kids. Until the point he discovered minimalism, he was just a regular guy with the same issues that most of us struggle with; being stressed out at work, dealing with insecurity, a “keeping up with the Jones'” mentality, and even health side effects, such as being overweight. From candle to oil lamp, oil lamp to gaslight, gaslight to electric light—his quest for a brighter light never ceases, he spares no pains to eradicate even the minutest shadow. So it was really refreshing to read Joshua’s book and find it full of common sense, wisdom, personal experiences and practical, reasoned advice. Written by bloggers who found their lives completely changed by minimalism, Ryan and Joshua are flipping tradition on its head. It seems that anyone with a minimalism blog is churning out a book version, and it’s not surprising. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend this as a book about minimalism or a book about personal development.
