Known for stylish Italian-made appliances, this air con unit fits in with De’Longhi’s range of good-looking coffee machines, radiators and toasters. If you like your interiors sleek and minimal, you’ll be satisfied with the monochrome colour pallette and slightly curved silhouette.

At 30kg, heaving it up the stairs is a two-person job, and you won’t be moving it between floors once it’s set up – although it has wheels so it’s easy to roll around if you want to move it between rooms. In the box, you’ll also find a hose pipe, an adjustable single or double hole window bracket and a flange with a cap to allow you to pump the warm air out of the window whilst the machine is circulating the cool air inside. The Cool Surround technology (CST) allows for temperature and humidity to be tracked and analysed exactly where you are, making sure you'll always enjoy your desired comfort. Word to the wise: if your home has more than one level, decide what floor you want to use it on and get it there before unboxing. One slight niggle is that the LED control panel remains illuminated in silent mode, so if you’re used to sleeping in complete darkness, that may grate, but it didn’t interfere with my sleep.Occasionally, it went into anti-freeze mode to stop frost from building up in the machine – this meant the AC would temporarily switch off while the fan remained on, so while I could sleep through silent mode no problem, this slight change of noise disturbed my sleep once or twice. I went for this one by Hoomee, which is pretty simple to set up: it’s essentially a strip of material you attach to the window with Velcro, with a zip closure for the hose.
