About this deal

I’ve later modded mine slightly; added a (Lee Valley) drill press table with fence, and mounted arms on the wheel - as Bob D says, I didn’t understand either, it’s not comfortable.

Maybe they need more power, holes of accurate and repeatable depth, or to make holes using larger Forstner bits than their power drill can handle. Here in Holland you can get a very nice HBM drill press for less than the green Bosch, and it will give you a lot more drill. On the other hand, the Bosch's clear speed readout, ease of setting exact, repeatable speeds and the excellent laser cross hairs suit my purposes very well - they may not be what everyone needs.Just to add to that excellent reply, I would say the biggest plus for me is the ability to drill to the "exact" same depth every time with different bit and timber changes using that big clear and almost instant setup function of the inbuilt digital depth gauge. The built in work light is more than adequate and the laser guide crosshairs system eliminates guesswork. It features a 2-speed gearbox, delivering high power in first gear and high speed in second gear for perfect material adaptations. The first lasted about 2 months before it started playing up, started stopping and starting when running. He now has a Nova Voyager, but kept his Bosch, because why not - for most tasks it’s faster to set up than a basic drill press with belts.

We’re very impressed with the machine, which, despite having an official maximum drilling diameter of 40 mm in wood, was more than capable of drilling a 90 mm Forstner bit into hard oak (but always take care when pushing a machien beyond its stated limits). Features wise the variable speed is excellent though you should note that you do not set the speed to a value rather it tells you what speed you have set, by turning the knob on the front, when you actually start it up. This might be a deal breaker for some, but hasn’t hindered our use thus far, and should we ever require an angled hole, it should be easy enough to rig up a homemade jig to sit on the baseplate. But, as good as they are in marketing they probably don’t know that, yet, or ever - someone else is going to nail this soon.

The Bosch bench drill delivers precise and comfortable drilling in many different kinds of materials making it ideal for furniture and model building as well as renovation work. The drill works fine however the laser pointer is not accurate as the alignment to the drill point goes off by a few millimeters at the workpiece. They say it's great for drilling accurately and repeatedly, it' s very simple to install, and the speed control is really easy to use. This product carries a full 3 year manufacturers warranty covering both faulty materials and faulty workmanship, it does not cover general wear and tear or damage, batteries, blades, bulbs and other consumables.

What makes it great its accuracy to put on a laser line and know exactly where you're going to drill and the feature that I love the best is to drill a hole the same depth every time this reduces making mistakes. Chuck play:The chuck does have a bit of play, meaning it can move very slightly sideways if I push it. The depth guage is great, the electronic speed control works well, the clamp is useful and the size, reach, depth and chuck size all adequate. The PBD 40 makes this job as simple as turning a dial on the front of the machine, letting you adjust the speed while the machine is running, something you can’t do on other pillar drills. I'm not entirely sure why Bosch didn't supply it with a keyed Chuck in the first place but there you go. Some slight movement of drill chuck when drill engages work but less than many i have used in the past. New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging . For drilling wood, the provided handle is fine, but when drilling big holes in steel, you need a lot of downward pressure, and with the wheel type, I find that difficult to consistently achieve.
