Description

The book jumps around like the characters do which is fortunate as it helps us get to the end more quickly. I tried to give this second book a chance after listening to the first one but I found myself genuinely uninterested in finishing it. I could barely follow the characters on their adventure because of all the deaths, I mean people were dropping like flies. I feel the execution of the series needs to be ironed out but I have enough incentive to continue with the series.

It took me right out of the story when you have Arron doing one voice and then Michela doing a completely different voice for the same character, not even vaguely similar. There were a few subversive plot twists I quite liked, although I was a bit sad that certain characters didn't get to realise certain dreams. In this book you meet 3 characters, a soldier Ulrik who comes back from working on one of the Kings merchant boats to find his mother and his younger sister Esara missing. While this makes for faster paced storytelling, I found the pacing of the book to become rather slow once the two character were united.

I loved the all the characters in this story and the attention to detail had me feeling like I was actually watching the events unfold. My major complaint with the first was there were too many almost identical fight scenes, but this book was much better paced with the fighting and the enemies. The prose seems to have become less dreadful and character conversations seem more like actual people talking rather than a bunch of action heroes shouting witty one liners. hour book 2 hours of which are inner monolog about being a strong woman, descriptions of people and places the characters never talk to or interact with. A Sea of Sorrow and Scorn is the gripping second book in the Tales of Levanthria fantasy-retelling series. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The story will continue in the next book and we'll learn more about other characters mentioned here in this book and I can't wait.

Some of them had nice interactions on the (very short, page count-wise) sailing section and then we get to the end and watch half of them get slaughtered in an attack and I couldn't even tell you their names. Overall, this is a fairly short book but spans so much time and distance that the proper detail is not given. Don’t get me wrong, not everything is terrible about this book, that might be one of the most frustrating things about reading these, there is so much potential. The characters on the horse, two of which are soaking wet, don't notice that they're soaking wet until after they 'stop to rest the horse' and have a conversation where they politely introduce themselves to each other.
