Once Sky learns the identity to the guy she finally feels something for 'Dean Holder' she's told he's nothing but trouble and to stay away. Hopeless is a compelling, gripping story of first love and also of discovering the secrets of a past long forgotten and finding the strength to deal with that and let go and move forward. Every chapter when it was labeled “13 years earlier” with the descriptions that Hoover provided I guessed that her father had molested her, which later on is found out to be true. I couldn’t decide if Hoover was attempting to make him remorseful or not because if she was, then it didn’t work and I find it hard to believe such a person could be remorseful about acts so disgusting and abhorrent. To be honest, after reading the first chapter I was afraid that it would be a 1 star book, but then luckily things got better unfortunately not that better.

After Les’s death, Jake had said that she’s taken the coward’s way out, and though Holder knew that was the truth, he couldn’t take it, and so beat him up, but he didn’t know that he was gay.It been a long time since I've fallen wholeheartedly in love with a book, its characters, and its love story. However, as he begins to uncover the truth about his own past, he realizes that he may have a chance to win Sky back.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. With the exception of Maybe Someday I haven’t loved them—but I always plan to read more of her books because I have such positive overall feelings about her as an author! But the mysterious Holder has been keeping secrets of his own, and once they are revealed, Sky is changed forever and her ability to trust may be a casualty of the truth . It’s true, Colleen Hoover is known for writing romance stories and getting readers to swoon soon to find out the major flaw of the male character; however, Holder’s cheesiness annoyed me for most of the book.

Then much to her dismay Sky finds out her best friend Six will be spending senior year abroad in Italy in a foreign exchange student program. I was such a fan of Hoover’s YA books, so I was sad when she started to lose me a bit with her adult reads. Every single thing they went though and did was believable and just made you wish you knew them in person.
