About this deal

They are helpful in properties with poor ventilation by avoiding the increase of dampness and mould growth.

Every winter, people go into their lofts to put away items they won’t need until next year or to take out the Christmas decorations. The felt on most roofs is overlapped and not airtight, these vents just open the overlap slightly to create an airflow into the loft. Please don’t ignore any issues you may have as they’ll only get worse (and more expensive to fix) the longer you leave them. When inserted in between felt in the attic roof, will this product not create a slight opening between each roof tile from the outside?

As well as the options provided below, you can choose to restrict or block cookies through your browser settings at any time. It filters through the ceiling, getting warmer as it passes through warm rooms and eventually gets into the loft. We provide you with a check list of things to look for to identify potential problems before they get out of hand as well as a sequence of solutions to deal with the loft condensation once and for all. You might be wondering why we didn't know this was happening, but to put things in context, we can't use our loft for anything sensible, like storage, as it's not boarded, so rarely open the hatch. Please note these are designed as a remedial solution to roof ventilation and do not meet the standards for permanent roof space ventilation on their own, and felt lap vents may adversely affect wind uplift of slates and tiles. If the system is simply a combination of vents with no thought or design, you could actually do more harm than good. Old drafty timber windows allow moisture to escape from the home, and if you replace them with airtight modern windows, the moisture levels in the home and also the loft will increase, and condensation is more likely to form. I read majority of comments, applied all good advices shared by others - fitted them rather low, and not exactly opposite to avoid creating air tunnels (1,3,5,7,9 slots on one side and 2,4,6,8,10 on other roof side).

I have previously published a more in-depth guide to condensation in a loft and that would be a good place to start if you are still having issues after installing lap vents.

As we heat our homes, more hot air is trapped under the roof space thanks to improved loft insulation. Optimum ventilation is not usually achieved through a single solution but instead by harnessing the benefits of several measures, including some of the following eaves vents, soffit vents, dry ridge (mandatory for new roof installations), fascia vents and tile vents.
