Thanks to the rear light and the reflective headband, others will be able to spot you in the dark as well. The LedLenser Neo 10R is a rechargeable head torch designed for hikes, cycling, running and other outdoor activities.

The max setting is amazingly bright but you can only have it on for couple of minutes, then it automaticly dimms itself down to the 90% setting, to save the battery. The supplied batteries can be used directly with the compatible Ledlenser products, thus no loss of capacity or time. As for brightness, on road/in the city the beam can overpower street lights and far away car headlights, which is ideal. I usually run around an hour or less, and although a bit tight, it isn’t uncomfortable for this time period. We believe Ledlenser lumens are in most cases superior because they combine with our world-renowned precision German engineering and patented Advanced Focusing Optics to optimise the light delivered.

The Ledlenser NEO10R can be easily adapted to individual needs: The one-handed focusing and swivelling lamp head with a strong luminosity of up to 600 lumens and a light range of up to 150 m allows individual adjustment of the light beam.The highlight of the NEO10R headtorch is the focusable beam, which allows you to refine the breadth and reach distance of the unit's output. The NEO10R is a top performer of the NEO series and perfect for all runners, the head torch is focusable, and has a swivel-head to light up any path you head down. Rab Equipment is one of my favourite outdoor brands on the market – they produce the legendary Microlight down jacket (see my recent review of the Rab Infinity Microlight Down Jacket ), as well as sleeping bags that I have used on some of my longest expeditions. I really appreciate that the Ledlenser 10R provides a warmer glow that brings out trail definition better. The chest harness setup can be worn on its own with the battery pack connected to the shoulder or stowed in a pocket with the extension cord.

The rear light and reflective headband make the NEO head torches visible from all the directions, which ensures the safety of the runner near the road. Moreover, since I’m usually running early in the morning on both road and trails, l like freeing up my head for a lighter, more comfortable, headlamp (like the 6R) so that I can be seen and see in all conditions. Finally, the 10R can convert to a chest lamp by attaching the lamp to the provided chest harness or creating a custom setup with your vest/hydration pack. The transportation lock also ensures that the light isn't switched on by accident when in a bag or in storage. It is adventure headwear that will keep you comfortable and protected from the elements for a lifetime of paddling, sailing, and hiking pursuits.Their products are made by hand in their Yorkshire factory, and finished with innovative touches like their magnetic buckles and super strong webbing straps. I guess if you were creative enough, you could find a way to mount it on to a hydration vest, but I do feel as though the light would bounce around too much for any practical use in trail running. The torch feels and presents as a quality piece of equipment but as yet I cannot comment on battery life.

I’ll probably stick it in mid power mode for most of the race and just increase it to maximum power on the more technical sections. I had had set on bright to dull but you can switch modes and have it cycle through from dull to bright. What I like about the setup is that it takes the weight off my head and provides light lower to the ground. I appreciate the adjustable beam of the 10R, however it is the warm light that is the greatest asset of the 10R.Also, having a designated battery pack instead of housing the battery behind the light seemed excessive but justifiable given the NOE10R’s lumen rating and run time.
