Quite enjoyed it as I love the characters however I think I’d worked out many of the twists long before they and that’s a shame as it is not like the usual offerings - still love frank though he’s a legend! If you enjoy humour as well as the serious side of policing, then I would say that this is a series for you. The thing that makes these books addictive is that alongside the investigations we get to become part of the lives of the characters when they leave the station for the day.

The banter between Ryan and Frank as well as Franks forced dieting adds some great humor with the case gripping the reader and have them trying to solve it before they do. This is probably a matter of personal taste, but I disliked the constant references to Trump, Liz Truss, TikTok, influencers, etc. There's a serial killer targeting the streets of Newcastle, seemingly picking his victims at random but subjecting them all to the same torturous end.
