About this deal

Around the headland, past the pier and The Mumbles (tidal islands) are 2 small coves, Bracelet Bay and Limeslade Bay, and an Italian seafront cafe (only restaurant part has sea views).

The growth and popularity of paddleboarding have been significant and we have put together some guides to help you make the most of this exhilarating sport.

The central section passes close to one of Gower's historic industrial and mining areas, now largely cleared, but with some evidence still of this earlier activity. Traffic free bike ride from the seafront inland along the route of a former rail line gently uphill to Killay. However, it is essential to consult the tide schedule, conveniently displayed on a nearby board, as access to the promontory is limited to a two-hour window on either side of low tide.

Rights of way, fences, permissive paths and bridleways are clearly shown, ensuring you have the best information to get the most out of your time in the countryside. The Gower Peninsula stretches towards the west from the City of Swansea, spanning approximately 19 miles. The laver (seaweed) is harvested from the shoreline, while cockles came (and still do) from the sandy estuary at Penclawdd on the north coast.

The uplands are littered with Neolithic remains, most notably the burial chamber topped by the 25-ton Arthur's Stone. Short steep ascent from car parks on the A4118 road which runs below it, or a longer easy and gentle ascent from Reynoldston (pub) along the ridge. Take a look around and see why it was designated as the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in the UK.Follow the Gower Way and Wales Coast Path to experience what this incredible part of Wales has to offer. It was inaugurated in July 1998 by HRH The Prince of Wales, as commemorated by a plaque located on Cefn Bryn above Penmaen. It is no wonder that both residents and those in close proximity to Gower deeply appreciate the area for its remarkable beauty and its relatively unspoiled nature. A large and very beautiful NT owned sandy beach in a quiet corner of Gower, backed by sand dunes, then a pine forest, then a salt marsh. The oldest buried human remains in Britain were found on Gower, dating back more than 30,000 years: the 'Red Lady' of Paviland (who later turned out to be a fella). Llangennith village (pub, church) leads down to a large Caravan park / camp site with a cafe in the dunes.

Starting at Penller Castell at 9am this morning the 6th Dec we followed the route spotting the stones the whole way. To make life easy, you will find all the neighbouring maps as well as the weatherproof edition of this map in the related products section below. The OS Explorer Active Map is the Ordnance Survey’s most detailed folding map and is recommended for anyone enjoying outdoor activities including walking, horse riding and off-road cycling. Only The Village Inn (dog friendly), and the The George (large food pub) about half way to the pier, remain.
